Aspirin Masks To Help Reduce Acne Redness And Inflammation

aspirin.jpgI’ve read a lot about aspirin masks in acne forums but I’ve never tried it …until now. I’ve developed a really annoying red patch on my nose that I think is the making of a pimple that can’t decide whether to form into a huge zit or just go away. I thought I’d try and gently help to move it along, because as we all know nose pimples are the worst!!

Why aspirin?

The idea is that aspirin is an anti-inflammatory so applying crushed aspirin to your face helps reduce inflammation and the annoying redness that comes along with acne. These masks are supposed to be GREAT at helping reduce the redness and inflammation of pimples, as well as removing some of the blackheads and whiteheads in your pores.

There are many different variations to the aspirin mask on the web. Some people use crushed aspirin with a little bit of water alone, and others add ingredients to boost its healing power. The best combination I found (and the one where I happened to have all the ingredients) was aspirin mixed with manuka honey and aloe vera.

Note: Aspirin is very drying to the skin, so if you have dry skin already then use this mask with caution. I added the manuka honey to my mask mix to make sure it didn’t dry my skin out too much.

The aspirin is anti-inflammatory, the manuka honey is anti bacterial and helps to keep you skin moisturized because aspirin is very drying, and the aloe vera is soothing and helps reduce the redness.

Dedicated Acne Treatment Clinic In New York

I’ve been in brief contact with Dr. Neal, from MidCity Medical which is a clinic in New York that is committed to treating acne. You heard it, it’s a clinic especially for acne sufferers. This makes me really happy to know that clinics like this are popping up, and hopefully MidCity Medical will be able to expand its clinics globally.

The videos from the clinic are absolutely amazing. And it’s all without oral medications! This one I was watching today actually made me cry because it’s a story that I’ve now heard over and over again from myself, my readers and on acne forums.

Finally A Natural Nail Polish!

I’ve been looking for one of these for AGES. I was reading the Organic Beauty Experts blog today and she had a great article about a new nail polish brand - Priti which apparantly is safe to use because it’s soy based and contains no formaldehyde, toulene or dbp. The nail polish remove is also made from soy, which err ..just sounds healthy.

This nail polish is great for pregnant women, kids and well just anyone that doesn’t want to put any more toxins into their body. That’s me!

Hot Tip: Clay Mud Mask And Cucumber For Treating Acne

Thanks Bel for the great mud mask and cucumber tip for soothing red and inflammed skin. I’ve been using a combination of clays mixed with mushed up cucumber over the last few days and it’s really helped sooth my skin after I irritated it with the coconut oil.

I LOVE clay masks because they work by absorbing toxins from the skin by drawing them to the surface and then adhering them to the clay itself. You then wash the toxins away when you wash the clay off your skin.

How To Apply Mineral Makeup To Cover Acne And Rosacea

I’ve just created a makeup and acne page in High on Health. You can view it by clicking here: http://www.highonhealth.org/makeup/

I wanted to show you my technique of applying mineral makeup that I’ve been using over the past year or so. It did a really great job at covering my acne when it was really bad. I also went from severe acne to clear skin while using this makeup almost every day so I think that is some indication that the makeup does not cause breakouts! which is really awesome :)

Please let me know if you have any additional makeup tips, I’d love to hear from you. I’m not a makeup artist (ssssshhhhh! I should really have got my makeup artist friend Nic to show you these tips) but this technique has been working so well for me I thought, oh well …it’s definitely great information that I can pass on.

So, enjoy the video series … In the future I’ll be adding any additional makeup and acne information that I find to that page. http://www.highonhealth.org/makeup/
