Healing Adult Acne: Your Guide to Clear Skin And Self-confidence

I was doing some research today and stumbled across this awesome book on adult acne.

This book just proves what I’ve always said about teenage and adult acne – that both conditions can be very different and often can’t be treated in the same way.

What I love about this book is it delves into the psych of dealing with acne. You know – the frustration, depression and social isolation that can go with having spots. This is a topic that is often only brushed over, But Dr. Fried goes into great detail on how and why acne sufferers can experience these unwanted thoughts and emotions, and how we can combat them.

I went for a skate with a friend this morning. Before we left I caught my skin in bad lighting and saw a scattering of small white heads over my left cheek. These whiteheads scare me because I know they’re the result of clogged pores and they can turn into a pimple. I never experienced these until I first started getting acne a year ago. So I was feeling particularly down about my skin today, and when my friend pulled out his iRiver mp3 player, plugged it into his ears and started listening to Eckhart Tolle’s interview with Oprah about his The Power Of Now book, I put my head down and skated along feeling miserable about life and my skin. Happy Easter And I’m Moving House

bunny_sml.jpgHappy Easter everyone! I thought I’d take the opportunity to talk about chocolate, because chocolate is my most favorite food and I’m always on the lookout for the healthiest option. We all know that refined white sugar can aggravate acne, so chocolate Easter eggs that have little sugar, or sugar alternatives are a much better option for acne sufferers or for those who are prone to getting spots.

I’ve also just spent the day moving house, so I’m EXHAUSTED now, but looking forward to a big adventure over the next few months :)

Easy Oatmeal Recipes For Homemade Facial Skin Care

oatmealI have to thank mother nature for oats :) I eat a big bowl of oatmeal just about every morning for breakfast and I love it! AND it can also be a great addition to your skin care routine.

Let’s be realistic – oatmeal is not going to preform miracles on your skin. It will not clear your acne or take 20 years off your life, but it is a cheap, natural and very effective exfoliant and even a great addition to a homemade face mask.

The good news (and what I love most about oatmeal for skin care) is it’s great for people with sensitive skin like me. Oatmeal is a great exfoliant for sensitive skin because it’s rough enough to exfoliate but also gentle enough not to tear or hurt thin skin. Oatmeal is also an astringent, so it seems to draw oil and impurities out of the skin.

Here are some of my favorite oatmeal skin care recipes that you can make at home. For the recipes that contain honey, try to use manuka honey because it’s a lot more healing than ‘normal’ honey. Continue reading →

I love this blemish gel because it works. It doesn’t preform miracles (which is why it’s only got 4 out of 5 stars), but it definitely makes a difference. I love anything that makes a spot disappear faster, and makes the redness and irritation not so obvious. Here’s my video review:
