I hadn’t had an overgrowth of Candida in ten years …until I was given a course of antibiotics to treat my acne. Well, the antibiotics didn’t work so I went off them, but they did leave me a little gift - an overgrowth of Candida in the form of a yeast infection.
Now keep in mind a couple of things. First, I haven’t had this problem in about ten years AND I’ve taken short courses of antibiotics a couple of times in that period for throat and chest infections. Also note that a Candida overgrowth can also pop up in your bowel. So what’s so bad about having a Candida overgrowth in your bowel? Well, this is one of the biggest root causes of acne, and I’ve seen a lot of cases of even severe acne that is caused by a Candida overgrowth alone.
So how can you tell if you’ve got Candida? I’ve already written a blog article about it which you can read here. If you think you have it, it’s best to visit a medical professional like a doctor or naturopath.
I get asked for skin care product recommendations a lot, and in the past I’ve been recommending what I’ve used and what was has worked best for me. However, I thought it was about time that I compiled a proper list of skin care ingredients that not only will not clog your pores, but are also safe to use on acne prone skin.
What does comedogenic mean and why it’s SO important
If you have acne prone skin then you will need to know what comedogenic means. In fact, you should become an expert in comedogenic and irritating ingredients in skin care.
How Comedogenic an ingredient is basically means how likely it is to clog your pores. So usually a rating is on a scale of 0-5, with 0 meaning it will definitely not clog your pores, and 5 meaning stay away from that ingredient because it’s a pore clogging nightmare!! Continue reading →
Okay, so now my trip away is starting to feel real. I can’t believe that in just one weeks time I’ll be in Fiji!!!! I haven’t been overseas in ten years and I’ve always wanted to have a working holiday so this is kind of like a dream come true
BUT, there’s a ton of stuff to do this week, and it’s stressing me out a little, so if I’m slow replying to your email or you don’t see as many blog posts I apologize.
I’ll be travelling through Fiji, Hawaii and Canada for 3-4 weeks before I settle in Toronto. I’m taking my laptop and there’s lots of Internet connections around so I’ll still be posting articles and videos and replying to your emails. I may be a little slower than normal but you may not even notice the difference
Anyway, here is a short video I recorded yesterday which is a short update on High on Health and how my skin is doing.
Have you ever seen a new skin care product in a store or advertised on TV and wondered if it really does work? Well, I have found THE BEST website that will take care of this problem! It’s called MakeupAlley, and it’s my new favorite website ever (and I know it’ll be one of your favorites too). Oh, and if you already knew about this website, why didn’t you tell me about it???
What I love the most about MakeupAlley, is that you can read product reviews from people who have tried them. This way when you’re wondering if a new product you saw will actually work, you can look up MakeupAlley and find out what others have thought about it, if it worked, if it did what it said it would do, and most importantly if it made them breakout or cleared their acne.
Another fantastic feature is how you have to add your skin type to your profile. So when you read other peoples reviews, you can see if they have the same skin type as you. So a product that works well on someone with very oily skin for example may not work so well for you if you have very dry skin.
I’ve recently purchased a few new products (which mind you are doing really well! my skin has never looked this good - I’ll tell you more about it in a few days if my skin keeps being this clear) …and reading up about these new products in makeupalley was very, very useful. In fact, I’d highly recommend that you look up all products in makeupalley that you’re thinking about buying from now on to see what others have to say about them.
Boys, I know the site is pink and is has a girly name, but it’s useful for you too. Because the same cleansers, moisturizers, acne treatments and sunblocks that us girls use are good for you too. So pretend you’re buying for your girlfriend or cruise the site when nobody else is around
Have you been wondering why you get your acne? I accidentally stumbled across some awesome information last night about face reading, and how you can determine the cause of your acne by looking at what part of your face you get blemishes on. Take a look at this picture:
You know, it took me a while to realize that this picture was mainly for girls ..duh! So boys I’m going to have to keep looking for one for you. But in the meantime you can look at the areas on your face that are not gender related
I LOVE this face reading stuff because it confirms my theory on hormonal acne for women and the areas they get blemishes on their face. In my case it’s obvious that my acne is brought on from the reproductive area (I get cysts along my jawline) and the uterus (I break out on my chin a lot!). So what I have to do is work really hard on balancing my hormones for those areas. I’m going to start taking the contraceptive pill soon and after finding this resource I’m even more confident that the pill will completely clear all my acne in these areas.
Has this resource helped you in learning why you get your acne?
