First I want to point out that many people have blackheads on their nose. Anyone that claims they don’t may just not get close enough in the mirror to see them. Those of us with acne prone skin have this habit of studying our skin ridiculously close to the mirror, so of course we’re going to find all possible minor imperfections on our skin.
So next time you have the chance to get close enough to your friends and families skin without looking too creepy, take a look at their nose. I can guarantee you that a lot of them will have a nose full of grayish-black dots.
The reason why you didn’t see them on your friends noses before was because blackheads are so small and too hard to see unless you look really close. So please keep in mind that your nose blackheads are like that too, very small and most likely only noticeable by you!
It’s also important to note that those dots on your nose aren’t always technically blackheads. A blackhead is a blocked pore filled with dead skin cells and oil that’s oxidized and turned black on contact with air. Sometimes the dots on your nose are just enlarged pores filled with a bit of oil, not blackheads. This is why they can be a lighter grayish color than the usual darker blackheads.
Why do I get so many blackheads on my nose? Continue reading →

I wanted to post what my favorite snack foods were when I was living in Canada, so you can get an idea of some of the different foods that you can snack on between meals that may be a little healthier and a little more beneficial to your body and your skin than what you may be used to.
Because lets face it, the easiest snack food to grab is a cookie or a chocolate bar. And that’s just not going to provide your body with any nutrients or nourishment.
It’s important to snack on healthy options for so many reasons. Of course my taste buds would love to snack on Kit Kats and cookies, but I know for a fact that these foods are not doing my body any favors. And they would cause a lot of havoc in my system, like feeding Candida, making me sluggish, the sugar high, clogging up my pores, a breakout, helping wrinkles form, etc.
So it’s great to snack on healthy alternatives like these instead …
1. Coquitos (or baby coconuts)

These mini coconuts are so adorable! They look exactly like grown up coconuts but they’re the size of walnuts. If you bite into one and crack it in half, it even looks exactly like a fully grown coconut. Continue reading →

I’ve been talking for a while now about the benefits of Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs), and in particular flax, fish and evening primrose oils. But some new research is emerging on flax seed oil and its possible link to estrogen dominance, which perhaps makes it a questionable oil to consume on a regular basis.
Estrogen dominance is becoming a huge problem all over the world. We’re consuming way too many estrogens from both obvious and hidden sources which is elevating our estrogen levels by way too much. And it’s not just a female problem either, this is a problem no matter what gender you are because men naturally have the estrogen hormone too.
Before I get onto Chia seeds (which is what this article is supposed to be all about), I’d like to first talk about plastics, because plastics are the biggest culprit of all containing a lot of hidden estrogens. And unfortunately plastic is everywhere and we use so much of it everyday. It may surprise you that all plastic contains estrogens. And the more flexible the plastic the more estrogen it contains.
So if you can, store your food in glass containers, use a glass drinking bottle, and never ever heat your food in a plastic container. I was using those little plastic sandwich bags for a while to store almonds and cashews in my handbag. I’m not going to do that anymore because the flexible plastic bag contains a lot of estrogens. And if you think the estrogens cannot get into your food or liquid, think again because they can.
Why is there estrogen in my flax seed oil?

I discovered this yoga bunny detox “healthy” soda while snacking on a sandwich at Gatwick airport in London, and I loved the drink as much as I love the name. I’m a proud yogini so anything that has the word “yoga” in its name grabs my attention. Yikes, how’s that for being drawn in by clever marketing!
This soda has a light citrus taste from the addition of grapefruit, lemon and lime juice. It’s a little too sweet for my liking but still distinctively less sugary than a regular soda. It’s important to note that I usually make my own sodas with sparkling water mixed with fruit juice so my sugar-soda-tolerance is quite low.
Why is yoga bunny detox healthy?
I haven’t had a “regular” soda in years, and I hope you haven’t either. I wrote a whole article about it which you can read if you’ve got time - Soft Drink, The Double Whammy.
Soda is one of the worst things you can put into your body. If it’s not full of refined sugar, then it’s full of aspartame which is worse. And most sodas are stocked full of chemicals. It’s just not worth drinking it. Continue reading →
November 19th, 2008 — Competitions
The Acne Skin Care Pack competition was closed today and I randomly picked a winner, so a special congrats goes out to entry number 5 - Jessica, for winning the pack.
This was yet again another overwhelming response to a High on Health blog contest, so a big thank you to everyone that entered.
And it’s been very entertaining reading through everyone’s pimple horror stories, and I’m so glad I’m not the only one that has a story!
