The Healthiest And Safest Way To Carry Around Your Water

I’ve blogged a bit in the past about how important it is to drink good quality spring water, and how plastic water bottles are a bad idea ..but I’ve never offered a good alternative. That is until now!

sigg water bottles

And I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before.

SIGG water bottles kind of made their presence known to me by just being everywhere. My friends were using them, my family was using them, everybody ..just started carrying around these cool little metallic-looking water bottles. So of course I had to have one. And now I don’t know how I lived without it.

SIGG bottles are awesome because they keep your water fresh and cool, they don’t leak any nasty toxins into your water, they’re not going to break if you drop them and most importantly for me - they come in a range of colors and pretty designs.

Keeping your water cool and away from direct sunlight is more important than you think, which is why it’s good these bottles are not clear like glass. The suns rays can interrupt the hexagonal structure of water which is why it’s better to keep your water in dark containers. However, it really depends on the quality of the water you’re drinking. Sure a dark bottle is better if your water is top quality, but if your water is not that great to begin with, then a glass bottle that has had sun exposure is not going to make that much of a difference.

SIGG bottles retail at around US$20 for a 600ml size in a plain color (the pretty designs are a little more expensive), which is quite cheap considering they last a long time so you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. A friend of mine just told me the other day that she’s had hers for about ten years now which just shows you how long they can last and how durable they are.

And if you really don’t have the money to make the investment, you can do what a good mate of mine does. He buys juice and iced tea in glass bottles and recycles them as water bottles. The advantage is you can have a few different bottles so there’s plenty spares if you lose one. And they come in all different sizes so you can choose the shape you like. The disadvantage is if you drop it, it’s going to break so they can be a little dangerous, and of course glass can be quite heavy.

I’m a bit of a clumsy girl and I like to take a bottle with me while I’m working out rollerblading so I don’t want to have to worry about falling over on top of my glass water bottle if I fall while I’m skating. So for me, investing in a SIGG bottle was definitely worth it.

And note that I’m not actually selling these bottles even though it may sound like a sales pitch :P This is just one of those things that I love and think is great and think everybody could benefit from using. Kind of for the greater good of health, helping the world etc.

Where to buy SIGG bottles

The only place in my city that stocks SIGG bottles is Biome - http://www.biome.com.au. Surprisingly I tried three of the chain camping stores in Brisbane first but they didn’t stock them. So you may find that an eco friendly store like Biome is the place to go.

There’s a worldwide store locator on their website which should help - http://www.sigg.com/en/where-to-buy/

Of course you can also buy online. Look for an online store that stocks them in the country you live in to save on postage costs.

The Best Ever Natural Cleansing Scrub For All Skin Types

almond rose cleansing scrubThe problem with opening an online store is that I’m now collecting a lot products that I love and feel I can no longer live without. So you can just imagine next time I go traveling how big my cosmetics bag is going to be!

This Almond Rose Cleansing Scrub from Third Stone Botanicals is one of my new favorite products. I mix it in with my cleanser as an exfoliant. It’s all natural and full of loads of good stuff so I’m healing my skin while I’m exfoliating which is awesome.

I now sell this scrub in my online store, so you can get your own here. And of course in true style of my blog, here’s a video I recorded about it-

When I first used the scrub I tried mixing it with just water, but found it a little too drying on my skin. So I made a mix with my cleanser instead and then it was perfect. If you have oily skin then mixing it with water should be fine.

What I don’t like about this product is how I have to make a paste with water or cleanser before I use it (it comes in a powder form). I’m really lazy so I love to just grab a product while I’m in the shower. You can make the mix up while you’re in the shower (and err, yes I have done this before), but you absolutely don’t want to get any water in the jar because it will ruin the product for future use. Really, I just need to stop being so lazy.

What I love about this product is how it’s gentle enough to use every day as a cleansing scrub. Most scrubs and exfoliants are quite harsh so I wouldn’t normally use them more than 3 times a week, but this one is soft enough to use every day if you want to. And as I mentioned before, the healing ingredients are a huge bonus. It’s not often that I find a product that contains zeolite and brown rice flour!

Whole Grain Buttermilk Pancakes

My friend Kristen from Food Renegade has very generously written a guest post for High on Health. Kristen’s blog is all about going back to the basics and healing with whole foods which is something we can definitely all learn from. So thanks Kristen for your post, and I can’t wait to make the pancakes!! Here’s Kristen’s post-

pancakesFran’s recently started writing about the need to sprout, soak, or ferment your grains to make them more digestible. That might sound intimidating, particularly if you want a wholesome, filling, and quick breakfast. So, I decided to share one of my family’s breakfast standards. It’s not complicated at all, and it’s a happy alternative to soaked porridge, eggs, and smoothies.

These delicious breakfast pancakes are made from fresh whole grains, real cultured buttermilk, and you don’t even need a grain grinder.

Why fresh grains?

Because you’ll become addicted, that’s why. When you buy whole grain flour at the store, particularly wheat flour, you’ll notice something — it’s bitter. That’s oxidation at work. Once the grain is ground into flour, it immediately starts to oxidize.

Experts say it takes 6 months for whole wheat flour to go rancid. A person who grinds it fresh will tell you it starts to “turn” in as little as a week. That’s because real freshly ground flour isn’t bitter. It’s sweet.

And, because the grain soaks overnight in the buttermilk, you’ll neutralize the phytic acid and make them more nourishing and digestible. Continue reading →

I’ve FINALLY Found The Ultimate Healthiest Chocolate (That Won’t Break You Out)

Loving Earth ChocolateI’ve been on a quest to find the best ever healthiest chocolate. I spent a lot of time in health stores and delis in Canada, the US, the UK and Europe checking and reading the ingredients on chocolate products.

I even sampled a lot but it wasn’t until I returned home to Australia that a very special surprise was waiting for me. The AWESOMEST chocolate product ever. This one actually tastes like the real deal, and it’s good for you so no need to worry about a breakout or getting bad skin from it. Hey, it’s even great for your skin!! Check it out-

I’m shipping this chocolate all over the world, so if you want some you can buy it here - http://www.highonhealth.org/products-page/food/

If you think you’ve found a better one let me know, but I won’t believe you because I’ve tasted a lot of raw organic chocolate and this one beats all of them by far.

And in case you were wondering, here are the ingredients -

Organic raw cacao butter, organic raw cacao powder, organic agave syrup (dark), vanilla beans, Himalayan crystal salt.

That’s right, NO dairy and NO refined sugars :D

And if you don’t understand my excitement, you’re either not a chocoholic or you haven’t seen my blog articles on how amazing cacao is. Here is more info if you want to take a look -
