Choosing The Best Makeup Brand To Cover Acne

makeupHonestly the best advice I can give you is to not even wear makeup at all because having nothing on your skin will always be the healthiest way. However, I know from personal experience how fantastic makeup can be to cover spots, so while your acne is healing there are some types of makeup that you can confidently wear without it making your skin worse.

I often get asked for advice on makeup brands but brand-wise I’m not really the best person to ask because when I’m shopping for makeup I do a lot of research to find a good one then stick with it for years. But I can tell you a few important tips that will definitely help you to find the best ever makeup that’s just right for you.

1. Only wear mineral makeup

I’ve blogged a bit about this one in the past. Mineral makeup is a gift from heaven for acne prone skin. So if you’re currently using any liquid foundations, go and throw them away because they’ll do more harm than good.

Mineral makeup is better because it sits on the surface of the skin so does not and will not clog your pores which means it won’t make your acne worse. I wore mineral makeup every day when I was clearing my skin and I managed to go from severe acne to clear skin while wearing mineral makeup every day. So this just proves that the makeup did not make my skin worse. Having said that, I did make sure I washed it off every night before I went to bed or even earlier if possible.

Is Acne Hereditary And Can Facial Steaming Cure Acne?

Yes, I am human just like the rest of you and occasionally I do get a breakout. I just spent a few days at the Sunshine Coast in Queensland with the very humid weather and my skin threw a tantrum and gave me a few spots.

Towards the end of this video I talk about my skin and why my spots have come up, but I did choose very good lighting so you can’t see them and I feel a little lame now watching the video back talking about my skin being bad when it looks pretty good! Check it out -

Along with very hot showers and facial steaming, humidity can easily bring on a breakout. Since I’ve been back in the Brisbane and the dryer weather, my skin has started clearing up very quickly.

I remember the same thing happened to me when I returned back to Australia from overseas. I spent a lot of time in very cold, dry weather as I traveled through Europe. And then when I came home to a very hot, humid Australian summer, my skin freaked out and I had a bad breakout. Within a couple of weeks my skin had gotten used to it and cleared up again. I guess sometimes those of us with acne prone skin need to endure those few days were the natural oils in our skin are getting used to a sudden change in climate.

Why Quinoa Is My New Favorite Grain

My very smart veteran vegetarian sister tried to get me into Quinoa (pronounced “keen-wah”) a couple of years ago but I guess I just wasn’t ready …because I ignored her.

But the recent shortage of organic brown rice in Australia and a huge promotion of Quinoa in the Body Ecology Diet has pushed me into experimenting with this grain over the last couple of weeks. And wow have I been missing out! I should have listened to my sister in the first place.

Why Quinoa is so great

  • First of all it tastes great which is a big plus. I’ve prepared Quinoa with both sweet and savory dishes and both have been fantastic. I actually prefer it to oats and rice.
  • Quinoa is one of the most easily digestible grains (and gluten free!) so it’s good for all of us. Keep in mind that even though this grain is more easily digestible, it’s still best to soak and ferment all grains before you eat them.
  • It’s a complete protein so great for vegetarians and vegans or anyone that needs more protein in their diet.
  • Very high in manganese and a good source of magnesium, iron, tryptophan, copper and phosphorous.

You can buy Quinoa as a whole grain or flakes. The whole grain is better because it’s not processed so better for your body, but I’ve still been using both. They’re both cooked in much the same way, the flakes just cook a lot quicker. Kind of like the difference between cooking whole oats and quick oats.
