I’m looking for a few fabulous people who’ve managed to either clear their skin completely or are well on the way to “recovery” to share with me how they did it.
While I’m confident I can work with all of you to get you on your way to clear skin, I really am just one girl so I can only blog about my own experiences …which is why hearing from others that have done the same is so valuable. And not only will your story help me out with the blog a lot, but of course it will help many others to clear their skin too.
Following success stories and case studies is also a good way for acne sufferers to know that achieving clear skin is possible.
And in return for helping me and High on Health out, I’m happy to personally offer you (for free) any skin care or health related advice that you may have, which is a service I normally charge for.
I feel like a bit of an expert on this topic because I spent eight months of last year traveling around the world and blogging about skin care. I’d recently cleared my acne before I headed overseas but I had to work hard on the maintenance of my clear skin while I was away.
When it comes down to it, taking care of your skin while you’re on the road is not much different to taking care of it when you’re at home. I guess there are two main things to keep in mind …
You can’t lug around ALL of the cosmetics you normally use
Healthy diets and detoxes are put on hold
Products
The number one rule when traveling is do not trial a new product the day you leave. Or even the day before. The last thing you want is a cosmetic acne reaction or clogged up pores on your holiday. You’re much better off taking good quality products that you’ve tried and tested and know fit well with your skin.
If you haven’t yet found products that you love (and I know some of you haven’t) and you do happen to buy something new just before you leave, then make sure you do HEAPS of research before you make your purchase. Make sure the product contains no ingredients that can clog the pores, and look the product up on MakeupAlley.com for reviews from others with acne prone skin.
As for packing for your trip away, the most essential items to take with you are a good quality cleanser and moisturizer. Also consider the climate of the destinations you’re visiting. I was traveling through very hot and humid to very dry and cold cities so I needed products that would be okay with both extremes. For me, Philosophies Purity Made Simple and Live-Live’s Bee Yummy Skinfood are good on my skin for all climates so perfect for traveling. Continue reading →
It’s amazing how much I can find to say about spot treatments for acne. You’d think it’s a simple topic but actually there are a few right and wrong things you can do when it comes to treating individual pimples …
As I mentioned in the video, the most important thing is finding something that actually works. There’s no point in using a spot treatment that does nothing, you’re just wasting your money and your time.
If a spot treatment has done nothing for your pimple overnight then it doesn’t work so toss it out. By nothing I mean it hasn’t dried the pimple out, brought it to the surface or helped it heal. Trust me, you’ll know when it’s done nothing, you can tell.
My favorite spot treatment of all time is the Miessence Purifying Blemish Gel. It’s great at drying out the pimple and killing off the bacteria. It’s also 100% organic and 100% natural which is fantastic (of course). So no side effects or problems if you stop using it.
And these are the natural spot treatments I’ve recently been using which I mentioned in my video-
One of the great things about working in the natural skin care industry is the great people I meet along the way. A couple of weeks ago I made a new friend, Andrew, who works with far-infrared saunas.
Andrew is very passionate about what he does (which I now understand why after trying one of these things). But when he first told me he worked with saunas my first impressions were still “yeah whatever”, because I could vaguely remember sitting in a steam sauna with my girlfriends over ten years ago now and not liking it at all because it felt way too humid to be comfortable.
But then Andrew told me that the saunas he works with are far-infrared (FIR), there’s no steam involved AND they’re amazingly good at detoxifying the skin. So now I was interested. And of course even more interested when Andrew invited me around for a session to try it out for myself.
My far-infrared sauna experience
I was a little wary before my first FIR sauna experience because of my previous steam sessions that I didn’t particularly like. I’m a summer girl so I love the heat but steam saunas can get uncomfortably hot and very humid which is not that fun. So on the way to my FIR session I was a little more apprehensive than excited because I assumed this sauna experience would be the same as the others.
Wow was I wrong. I was lucky enough to enjoy a cabin FIR sauna for a whole 45 minutes. Sure the last ten minutes were feeling a little too hot and uncomfortable and I should’ve either opened the door or finished earlier, but the first 35 minutes were absolute bliss. Sitting in the cabin felt so beautiful, cosy and warm. Andrew gave me a few CDs to play in there (yes some cabins have CD and DVD players) and I took in a book to read figuring I’d get bored sitting in there for 45 minutes. But it was so cosy and so warm that all I wanted to do was close my eyes, relax and do nothing. Continue reading →
I have no idea if you’re going to like this recipe but I have it every single morning for breakfast and I love it.
You may remember me talking about Quinoa a lot. It’s one of the better grains to consume because it’s easier for our bodies to digest, it contains more calcium than milk, it’s a complete protein AND it’s packed full of vitamins and minerals.
And I’m sure you remember me talking even more about the superfood cacao which is just too amazing for me to write about in such a small space. So here’s a video I recorded a few months ago on how amazing cacao beans are-
So one morning when I was looking at my bag of Quinoa flakes and fighting a chocolate craving, I figured I may as well go with the flow and combine these two awesome foods together to make something spectacular. And now I’m addicted to it!
Please keep in mind that this is a skin safe recipe so it will not break you out
Chocolate Quinoa Porridge
Serves: 1
Ingredients
1 1/2 cups of filtered water
1/2 cup of Quinoa flakes
1 Tbspn cacao powder
6 drops of liquid stevia
