I was in the park the other day having fun with a digital video camera a friend has very kindly lent to me, and of course I had to record a video for High on Health so here it is. Enjoy the background, a couple of boats and a skateboarder go past!
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments about this video.
Congratulations to Joel who is the winner of the Dr Neal’s Acne Bootcamp products!
We couldn’t go past Joel’s amazing video entry which beautifully expressed his personal story and his strong determination to heal his skin. Check the video out if you haven’t seen it already -
I’d also like to give a special mention to Florentine’s video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIknsScMvzI, Kevin’s word document and to Henrieta’s and Chris’s text submissions. But REALLY I’d like to thank you all because each and every submission was of a very high standard and it makes me sad that I can’t offer this opportunity to each and every one of you.
I’ll make sure that Joel keeps us updated on his progress and lets all of us know how his treatment with Dr Neal is going.
I’ve been working on compiling a recipe center for my clear skin coaching program and just out of habit wrote down “Loving Preparation” instead of the usual “Method” that most people use. Which got me thinking why I decided to use the term loving preparation in the first place.
In my nutritional medicine studies I learned how important it is to be in a happy mood and positive frame of mind when you’re cooking. Because believe or not, your energy does go into the cooking. So if you cook from the heart and prepare food with love, then you’ll definitely be creating a better and much more enjoyable meal. And it goes both ways - if you hate the fact that you’re cooking, don’t like what you’re doing, or are in a cranky mood then your negative energy will come out in the food too.
This is really trippy hippy stuff I know, but there is definitely a lot of truth to it. I even dug up my old nutritional medicine text book so I had some kind of professionalism behind this blog post.
I’ve already blogged a bit in the past about using the birth control pill to clear acne at a surface level, but have not mentioned the supplement Estro-Sense before.
This supplement can be used in conjunction with the birth control pill to help break down the estrogen in your body. This means a reduction in side effects for those of us girls who experience them while on the pill (nausea, fatigue, brain fog, depression, etc).
It is not my job to tell you whether or not you should be taking the birth control pill to clear your acne. This is a personal decision you will need to make for yourself. As I mentioned in the video, you need to keep in mind that the pill is just clearing the acne at the surface level, so the root cause will still be there and may possibly still be there once you go off the pill which means the acne may return.
But I also understand that sometimes, and especially in cases of severe acne or a severe emotional response to your skin condition, a surface level treatment like this can be okay to give you the time and energy to focus on the root cause of your acne. But as I said, I’m just here to give you the facts but ultimately the decision is yours.
And for those of you who are considering taking the pill to clear your acne, please consult with your doctor on the best options available to you. There are some brands of the pill that do a good job at clearing the skin for most women, but there are brands of the pill that can make the skin worse so it’s important to get the best one.
I made these pancakes for breakfast this morning and they were delicious! I used wild blueberries which are not as sweet but still full of flavor and more nutritious than ‘regular’ blueberries.
It’s also important to buy real maple syrup, so read the ingredients and make sure it’s not a brand of fake maple syrup.
Makes about 5.
1 cup of spelt or stone ground whole wheat flour
a pinch of celtic or sea salt
1 cup milk or milk substitute
1 egg
30g melted butter or extra virgin olive oil
1 banana, sliced
a handful or blueberries
maple syrup
Loving preparation
Sift the flour and salt into a large bowl. Make a well in the centre. Whisk together the milk and eggs in a large jug. Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture, whisking constantly until a smooth batter forms. Stir in the butter or oil, banana and blueberries. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes to rest.
Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Brush with the extra melted butter or oil to lightly grease. Pour 80ml (1/3 cup) of the batter into the pan to form a 15cm-diameter pancake. Cook for 2-3 minutes or until bubbles appear on the surface and the pancake is golden underneath. Turn and cook for a further 1-2 minutes or until golden. Repeat with melted butter and remaining batter, reheating pan between batches, to make about 5 pancakes.
Place pancakes on serving plates. Drizzle over maple syrup to serve. You can also top with sliced fresh strawberries, blueberries and coconut.
