30 Days Raw Vegan – Day 5

In this video I give you an update on how my raw food journey is going..

And I talk a little about an awesome raw food that I’ve started uncooking with – kelp noodles.

Here is the official kelp noodles site – http://kelpnoodles.com/. They do ship globally so you can buy from this site.

Or if you’re in Australia, you can buy kelp noodles at the Raw Pleasure website – http://raw-pleasure.com.au/ But they’re a lot more expensive at Raw Pleasure.

I would love to hear more about your raw food journey. Please Keep us updated!

Yes, please update us as much as you can. It is super interesting to hear how it is all going for you. I think putting it all into a PDF is a really good idea. Maybe an update just every couple days for those people who don’t care (though I am not sure why people would not care!) Those kelp noodles looked really good by the way. How do you make the sauce to put on them? Maybe a nice PDF with all your recipes in it; we will all copy you if your skin looks great by the end!

Good Luck. I know that you can do it!!! :)

Hi Fran! I’d love to hear everything you are doing with this diet…including what you are eating each day and how you are feeling. Your idea to post with new updates each day is fantastic…please do! I’m seriously considering this myself, but I have no idea where to start. Learning from you really helps with my hectic schedule/lifestyle. Cheers and good luck! :)

I’d like to see more posts about your raw food journey. I eat 70-80% raw each day and it has definitely helped maintain my skin (now I only get 1-2 pimples that heal quickly). I recommend taking a b12 supplement when going vegan, if you aren’t already. Research is inconclusive about whether algae (spirulina, etc.) contains absorbable b12.

You should be fine with vitamin D since you’re getting sun, and you’ll get plenty of iron from the greens & nuts. And greens contain plenty of calcium. Just mentioning these vitamin/minerals in case some of your readers choose to do the raw food diet with you.

Actually, I personally think that an update every 5 days on what’s going on is perfect! Every day would get a bit repetitive, and 5 days is enough to discover a couple recipes or foods that are good (or essential!) to raw foodists! So yeah, regular (but not daily) updates + how to start eating raw would be awesome for me personally.

You’re a great role model, thank you for all you’ve dome for us!

I agree with Julie B.! Every 5 days works well.

#9 Fran on 01.06.10 at 12:01 pm

Veronika- You’re right ..I started taking my B12 supplements again when I realized it was very difficult to get it from a vegan diet. I have vegan friends who’s B12 levels are fine without supplements but my body struggles with B12 even on a vegetarian diet. I also need to watch my iron levels.

An update roughly every 5 days is looking like a good idea!

Fran, I am very interested in vegan eating so thank you for your videos and info. I had moderate acne on my cheeks last year until I started Akamin and Isotrex gel last november and I’ve noticed a great improvement. However, I’m very interested in health, nutrition and nature and I really love your blog. Thanks again!

Just wanted to mention my experience with the raw vegan diet and my skin. When I ate only raw for 4 months, my skin tone definitely improved, but I didn’t see the improvements with my acne that I had hoped to see. My skin was a little clearer but not a lot. But then again, it was for a relatively short period. Also, I was eating quite a bit of food combinations that weren’t very easily digestible (complicated recipes, sweet fruits and nuts together, for example), so that could’ve been a reason I didn’t see much improvement. I’m gradually getting back into raw (and doing it better, IMO), so we’ll see what happens.

I look forward to hearing about your experience with the diet!

This is something I want to try one day, so I am very fascinated with your “experiment”. Keep up the good work! Your skin is looking great!

I am VERY interested in this topic. I am so happy you are doing this raw vegan trial, so please keep updating!!!

Really interested in raw foods…I wanted to start eating raw for the new year but I was on a road trip at the time which made it pretty much impossible to start. I’ve realized that going raw is very impractical for me…I’ll be taking 18 college units this spring, and I live with my boyfriend who loves my cooking. I just can’t stop cooking for him. =D I’m going to incorporate more raw into my diet, but can’t see myself going 100%….maybe 70%.

i want to hear more succes stories from people eating raw about the benefits they discovered from it and the success with their skin.

Anyone? please do tell.

I am 100% a believer already just want to hear about it

:)

I’ve been raw for about 5 months now and its been great for my skin among many other things. There are different ways to eat raw and I don’t like to put a label on anything but one major difference is between high-fat and low-fat. I recommend low-fat raw for a lot of reasons that would take probably exceed the max for this comment box, however, I can provide a great source: The 80-10-10 Diet by Dr. Douglas Graham. It’s a really informative book and discusses why people don’t succeed when going raw when they are high-fat. For those not familiar with eating raw or the raw food movement, a lot of dishes are made with nuts in order to recreate things that resemble cooked food. It’s a way to make it easier to transition and help with cravings and the like. It’s also known as “gourmet raw.” I started out high-fat and noticed more of an improvement switching from high-fat raw to low-fat raw than I did from cooked to raw.

Anyway, I could go on and on talking about this and Fran, I’m not sure how much you touch on this in your videos (haven’t watched them yet) but once again, I recommend low-fat raw (also known as 811 or 80-10-10 or lfrv). Hope that helps! =)

Nikki & everyone – It’s really, really important if you’re going raw to eat right for your constitution. So some of us will require a lot of fats, others are better of with not much.

I have a very vata constitution so I need to have a lot of nuts and oils in my diet to calm down my vata (basically to get grounded otherwise I’ll turn crazy). Others who have a more kapha, robust body type are a lot better off on low fats .. raw diets and kapha constitutions go very well together :)

I think I’ll write a blog article about all this!! x

Hi Fran. Just wanna say, LOVE your videos and blogs! Thank you so much for all of your advice. Much appreciated. I tried the raw food diet a couple of years ago, but I was only able to keep it up for 3 weeks. Not very long, I know. I’m already a thin person, and I was losing a noticeable amount of weight as a result of the food that I had cut out. So I didn’t look very healthy. Also, I noticed that it caused me to have bad breath for months, even after I had reintroduced the other foods back into my diet. It was very strange. It did eventually go away though. I wonder if there’s anything you can do to avoid that. You wouldn’t think that eating raw fruits and veggies would cause bad breath. At least I didn’t.

Hi Fran, Happy New Year. I’m totally interested in hearing more about raw vegan diet, although I’m not sure if I’d be able to do it myself! My acne is pretty much gone now thanks to following some of your advice and improving my diet (basically just adding a lot more veggies), but after following your blog for a few months, you’ve got me interested in being ‘uber healthy’. Can’t wait to see what the results are. Your skin looked stunning and glowing in the video!

Hi Fran :)

Great way to start your new year! 2009 was my year for starting raw. I was about 90% raw for half the year and at first I felt really good, mind you I had to take supplements to feel this way. The past couple of months though, I have been losing a lot of weight and starting to lose the ‘glow’ and my skin has been breaking out more than ever. I think this is due to the stress I am feeling, perhaps the B12 deficiency. I do hope it works out well for you and listen to what your body wants (I am learning to do this more). Green smoothies are the best, you will learn to love them! I juice celery, cucumber, carrot, beetroot, kale, silverbeet, ginger, apples and lemon. If you have this with coconut water as well it turns out quite sweet :) Please do keep us updated!
