I had a photographer around to my place today to take a photo of me for a couple of newspapers.
I was freaking out this morning because I’d stupidly picked at a blackhead and whitehead last week (that were very hard to see mind you) which turned into red, inflamed and flaky-skin spots. Luckily my mineral makeup and a bit of papaya gel did a GREAT job at covering it all up! More about that in the video-
I’m looking for a makeup artist to work with to create some how-to videos with High on Health, so if you’re interested please send me an email at support@highonhealth.org
I’d also love to hear from any natural mineral makeup brands that are interested in blog sponsorship.

Your site is the best thing ever!
You’re helped me out sooo much! =]
Good luck!
Great idea, Fran – it’s always good to hear make-up artists’ ideas and tips when dealing with acne.
Personally, I’m new to using make-up and I’ve been experimenting with mineral brands. The best I’ve used so far is Everyday Minerals, which helps to mattify my oily skin and look natural, whilst providing sufficient coverage.
The one issue I do have, however, is trying to cover up those nasty pimples that have come to a head, so there’s a pus-filled yellow monster. Any concealer I put on one of these bad boys just seems to make it shine through like a beacon. I’ve trawled through other forums to see if people have any success covering these up and the general consensus is that people pop these before putting on make-up. I refuse to do this because it leaves a weepy mess. I’ve also read that dabbing foundation/concealer a shade or two darker than normal just on those heads sometimes works, but I’d really like to get a professional make-up artist’s opinion on this.
Thanks!
hey fran! i was using after glow cosmetics its a mineral makeup brand which is 100% organic and natural, love them too bad it didnt work good w/my oily combo skin. so my question would be what brand is good for oily/combo skin or what type of make up to use in general? thanks so much Fran!
Nice topic, sounds interesting to have a make-up artist give some advice. I actually have two things bothering me about my make-up at the moment, I was hoping any of you could help:
1. I use mineral make-up from Lily Lolo and it works wonderfully at covering up acne on the lower side of my face but when i apply it to my forehead (which is rather oily by the way) it always turns out really cakey. I make sure to wash my face two times a day. For special events I’d like to give my whole face an even finish so what can I do to make it look more flawless?
2. I’d love to hear tips on applying make-up but i’d also like to know how to effectively REMOVE it. I often see remains of my cleanser and make-up sitting on my skin after washing and to get this off i usually have to scratch it or rub rather harshly which of course i’m not very fond of. A guide on how to cleanse your skin could be an idea for this new project.
Thanks, and good luck with it Fran!
I wish you all a good day
What papaya gel do you use?
Thanks!
Hi! I guess what would be interesting for me would be how to mask a forehead-full of whiteheads (or just get rid of them altogether!) Seriously, those bumps are sorta annoying, but I try not to think about them
Hey Fran,
I recommend lavoulpe from youtube! She just posted 2 videos on mineral eye shadow applications (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAKDRArCoRQ) using products from Everyday Minerals!
And for the makeup brand I also recommend Everyday Minerals! They have 4 different formulae for makeup that’ll suit people with dry skin to those with oily. (I use their Intensive formula.) They also have tons of foundation shades to pick from. And they’re not only cruelty free but vegan as well! (http://www.everydayminerals.com/policies/products)
Thanks everyone for your questions! Sounds like we already have a few video ideas for a makeup guru to create for us.
Crystal- I don’t use the best papaya gel ..I’m going to pick up a better one from the health store. Look for something that’s as pure and natural as possible
Joolzy,
did you try to use the minty-green mineral concealer on those pimples? Everyday Minerals has one that works great.
you cant make the pimple become less “3D” with makeup only, but at least its a lot less visible to the eye… You just apply a little of the green concealer powder on the pimple (and on any red area) blend it out a little and follow up with a mineral concealer or foundation in your skin tone.
I had heard about this makeup-tip years ago, but for some reason I hesitated to try it…I was scared to end up looking like a green marsian:)
now with a litlle practice,it works GREAT -I use it almost every day!
I hope this will work for you too
Hey everyone, if you’re using Paw Paw cream just be aware that Lucas’s is petroleum based (basically Vaseline). Simmons and Pure Nutraceuticals are two brands which are petrochemical free.
So frustrating to hear about how great mineral make up is…I’m allergic =( Soooo wish I could use it.
Hi Fran, I would recommend Michelle Phan http://www.youtube.com/user/michellephan?blend=1&ob=4 She supports eating healthy and uses mineral base makeup. Her highly successful youtube channel is what you need for the makeup department.
I’d highly recommend make up artist Kandee Johnson too, she’s so sweet, passionate and motivating.
Hi Fran! I think adding some how-to videos about makeup is a great idea too! I have some concerns that I could use some advice for. I like to use mineral makeup, but my skin can get particularly dry just after applying powdered makeup, and flaky (even if I exfoliate). Also, it seems that after wearing any makeup for a little while, my skin seems to start to mass produce oil and then anytime I touch my face I get smears of makeup on my hands and it gets on my cell phone too which is gross. Another concern I have with makeup is lines/creases. I am only 20, so I don’t have any wrinkles, but I do smile/laugh a lot. So, whenever I smile, it leaves creases around my mouth and it doesn’t matter what type of makeup I am wearing either. What makeup would cover up acne and scars, stay put for long periods of time without creasing, and look natural? Sometimes I think mineral makeup makes me look like I’m wearing a whole container of makeup, and I don’t want to look like I’m wearing a lot of makeup. I would rather have the benefits of wearing makeup, while looking like I’m wearing none at all!!! Is that even possible? I’m starting to lose hope…

I use Bare Escentuals. They cover my spots like a miracle. One problem with Bare Mineral is that it makes my oily face very shiny. Any good solution?
WOW Fran, u are getting more and more beautiful by the time CONGRATULATIONS u look soo happy and ur skin is glowing
I’d like to know more about mineral primers.
Hello:)
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the best foundation to use is cause i use L’Oreal and it leaves my skin so oily. if you have a good solution please let me know along with where i can get it. Thank you.
I’ve been using Nude by Nature which is a made in Australia brand. So far I have had no problems with it, it seems to do a good job covered. Still have problems covering up the bigger pimples that just pop out, but I tend to dab some of the mineral powder on the pimple before covering the whole face. It seems to help. But I would definitely love to hear about more make up tips because I still am having trouble balancing the color on the skin, there are red spots all over from the acne.
I have a formal event I will be attending on Friday and my acne decided it’s flare up time! I have established a pretty good regime to cover up the redness, but right now the texture of my skin is really bumpy. Can you recommend anything for that?
Thanks
Hi Fran,
I would like to know more about how to correctly aply the makeup and also how to pick out some that’s healthy for your skin.
Thanks!
I’ve been using mineral makeup for the past few years (never wore any makeup at all but was becoming increasingly self-conscious about my acne) and completely agree with you. It’s best not to wear it whenever possible. Even tinted moisturisers are a bit of a bother.
I was wondering, where does one find organic papaya gel? I cannot buy it locally nor can I seem to find any online. I currently use a concealer brush and blend accordingly with the kabuki brush, but I am curious to try a “wet” method.
