I wrote an article sometime last year about my top three favorite snack foods, but these snack foods are getting a little boring now and I can’t find the mini coconuts in Australia so I’ve had to update my menu!
And if you have a favorite snack idea please let us know by commenting in the response box below. I’d love some more ideas so I’m looking forward to hearing from you

hi fran,love your updates,
will pettacios nuts healthy to eat as snack nuts?
just a random quetion.
and where could i really found a natural sweetness?
Hi Mardia, all nuts are good
Best to soak them before you eat them though. Natural sweeteners can be found at just about all health food stores.
But be careful! I soaked my nuts for about 3 days, and mold started growing on them! I guess one day probably suffices?… it was the first time I tried and I wasn’t sure how long to do it for.
On a different note, Fran, I love your blog but I’m so busy that often I don’t have time to listen to an entire video, despite the fact that I want to (I do, however, read everything you write). Is there any way you could make mp3 versions of your videos so that your loving readers could download them, then listen to what you have to say in our cars on the way to school/work? THAT would be so efficient and amazing!!! [Just a suggestion].
Jasmine, this will happen if you soak them for too long! And you really need to eat them the day after you soak them. You really don’t want to leave it longer than overnight.
Great idea about the mp3, I’ll see what I can do for my next video.
Hi Fran, we are so on the same page! lol health and healthy food, effects on the body, healing diets/food, etc, are my passion and hobby too! I spend every spare second ‘researching’. My friends think I’m like a hippie health freak, and I think that is cool, I’ve been called worse things! lol
A little treat that I make for myself and my daughter are carob banana chunks. I buy a bag of organic dried bananas (not banana chips) and cut them into little chunks, I buy a bag of organic carob buds and I melt them then coat the banana chunks in carob and let them set of baking paper. Not the healthiest snack, but definitely not the worst… super delish…
But I tend to snack on fruit, veg, goji berries, activated nuts/seeds, etc…
Oh ok,thanks fran.
Just one more quetion please,is eating raisin is ok too?,it’s really nice and sweet, really sweet though,it make me curious cause of the sugar it have.
Hi Fran,
Great info! I’m looking forward to trying that probiotic smoothie you mentioned.
Being on the BED for about a week now has been a bit of a challenge when it comes to snacking. When I started the diet I weighed 94 pounds and now I’m down to 90. My ideal weight is about 98 lbs, but even when I ate all sorts of bread products and natural sugars I still had problems with gaining weight (I’ve never weighed more than 98, except when I was pregnant).
Anyway, I am always hungry and always eating. Except on the BED I need to be concerned with not only what I snack on but in what order with food combinations and digestive time frames and what not. I find that I can’t eat as much as I used to. And I don’t want to lose anymore of my cute little butt than I already have.
I hope you don’t find weight loss a major concern while on the diet as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, thank you.
hi fran
are soybeans like edamame ok for healthy snack?
thank you.
Hi Fran!
I loveee snacking on almonds..but I tend to eat too many in one sitting >_< so I made my own little recipe. I just mix together:
- 1 part gluten-free flour mix
- .5 part rice flour
- some maple syrup
- pinch of salt
- pinch of baking powder
I roll the mix into a whole lot of small balls, bake them, let them cool and drizzle melted green&blacks dark chocolate ^_^ yum…crushed almonds sprinkles are a great finish too
Hello Fran
Thank you sooo much for updating your snack list! I’m so excited! …Because I don’t have much knowledge about health food, I’d been hesitating to go to Wholefoods…although they are just 3 miles away from my place…well actually 3 Whoefoods stores within 7miles…Anyways all the unfamiliar organic stuff they have is just overwhelming, and I always feel lost in that place. So I needed a little help for what to buy before I go snack shopping there. I will definitely explore more stuff in the store next time as you suggested!
To Kitty:
Your carob banana chunks sound so good!! I happened to have carob chips; even though, I don’t know what they are…lol. I just bought them because I couldn’t find any unsweetened dark chocolate chip. I will try your recipe if I could find the dried banana…! Thank you for sharing your snack idea!
Mardia- Dried fruits are high in sugars so don’t eat a HEAP of them but in moderation they’re okay, as long as you’re not on an anti-candida diet.
Samantha- Have you had a consultation with anyone? The consultation I had with the BED specialist was fantastic, she gave me a lot of great ideas. And they can guide you to help with things like snack foods. Those probiotic drinks are great, and making a big batch of soup and eating/drinking a cup when you feel like a snack is a good option too
I was also given a bread and muffin receipe which I can bake up and use as snacks (although I did make the buckwheat bread and it tasted …not so good)
H20 – yep, go for it.
vivienne- Oh LUCKY, lucky you that gets to live near wholefoods!!! I’m very extremely jealous. Just read the labels and you’ll be fine.
healthy snack are fun to eat when you’re on healthy diet and it fun when you make it yourself.
one of the idea i learn and just a easy fun snack i had,is using peanut butter no-sugar,it’s hard when you cant eat wheat.so found this simply one using apple and peanut butter, its can be for breakfast.
just poke and make a hole on the apple to pull the seed out, they have thier tool for that which i donno what it’s call, abd cut the apple to slices and turn out to be rounding with hole in middle like a donut, and just spread peanut butter on top and wa la! a apple peanut butter donuts, simply fun and healthy.you could sprinkle with your favourites nut or somethings.
Oh hey Vivienne!
I’m so glad you like the sound of my carob banana chunks… just make sure the carob is no-added-sugar. Personally I don’t even like the taste of the sugared carob, never have, not even when I was a kid… I love plain carob, and not even as a chocolate substitute – I prefer carob to chocolate – everyone thinks I’m nuts, but that’s ok! lol
I go to a store called Macro Wholefoods http://www.macrowholefoods.com.au to get my organic dried bananas – they are delicious on their own but they look a bit unappetising lol
and that’s where coating them in carob makes them more appealing especially for my daughter… they are such a nice sweet treat to have with a cup of rooibos or green tea…
And because I can never choose between rooibos or green tea I have taken to putting a bag of each in my tea cup, adding some Stevia for sweetness, pour in boiling water, steep a few minutes then add some almond milk… sooooo delish…
Oh wow Kitty, I love the sound of your rooibos and green tea drink, I’m going to make that
Cool Fran!
I hope you like my super anti-oxidant tea concoction! I am a tea freak, so I’m always playing with combinations and flavourings, like adding fruit juice to chamomile tea to sweeten it and cool it down…
Hi Fran! I was curious to know if you take any supplements and if so which ones?
Hi Chase, not a lot at the moment. I take a NewChapters womene’s multi vitamin every morning (and by the way, thank you for reminding me to take it today). And some Chinese Herbs to help with a bit of gastro type funny belly stuff that I have at the moment. That’s it
BUT I’m getting a blood test done this week so we’ll see if I need to take anything else!
Hi Fran,
I know the main purpose of your website is to guide and educate people on how they can maintain clear skin, however you happen to mention diet quite often but I don’t see many recipes posted.
I currently want to change aspects of my diet, but I’m really in need of some healthy, skin friendly vegetarian or vegan recipes which I could try out. I’ve looked through so many sites and a lot don’t seem that suitable. I just wondered whether you knew any websites or specific favourites of yours that you could post?
Thanks.
Hi Sean, I realize that recipes is one thing many of my readers have asked for over the last year so I’m working on it! I’m considering creating an eating guide + recipes in my bootcamp course. In the meantime, my favorite recipes for the skin CURRENTLY follows an acid/alkaline diet, so check out foods that are more alkaline. My friend Ross has an awesome site for this – http://www.energiseforlife.com/
Also check out low glycemic index foods. The combination of alkaline foods / low GI foods / whole foods I think is magical for the skin.
Yeah, some recipes would be great and I think it would be a really good idea for you to create an eating guide with recipes as part of your boot camp course. I’m sure that would be really helpful to a lot of your readers!
I’ve been reading about alkaline foods and ones low in GI. As expected they are all foods I’ve heard are great for the skin. I’m currently in the process of putting together a list of foods low in GI and alkaline so I have a better idea of what I should be aiming to eat more of.
Just wondering, what are ‘bad sugars’? Fran, I know you mentioned that cane sugar isn’t good (at least for snacking) and I was just wondering…if I’m purchasing food and the ingredients label says anything about sugar, should I avoid it? What about sucrose, glucose, dextrose, etc.?
Danielle- Bad sugars are unnatural and processed sugars. The best sugars to eat are stevia, coconut palm sugar, agave and dates.
And usually when you opt for purchasing mainly just whole foods and foods that are prepared with natural ingredients, you don’t have to worry about analyzing the ingredients label too much because it’s VERY easy to follow.
But keep in mind, that I do eat 10% for the soul and that is okay! So still give yourself a treat every now and again.
