I was sent the link to AbsoluteAcneInfo the other day to do a site review. I know it may seem a little odd that I’m reviewing another site on a similar topic, but hey – I’m all about sharing the love so here’s my review…
*****
I’m not sure if you’ve realized this, but I do spend quite a bit of time trying to make my blog and my articles “pretty” and hopefully providing information to you that’s either fun or interesting to read along with being informative (please don’t break my heart and disagree
).
But sometimes good information on the web can be found in incredibly boring looking places – Absolute Acne Info being one of them.
Unfortunately for the owners of the site, my first impressions of AbsoluteAcneInfo where “boring” and “hard to use”! But once I actually delved into the content and starting to take a proper look around, I realized that there was quite a bit of useful information in there – information that is both complimentary to my blog and about stuff I haven’t had time to write about yet.
While I do disagree with some of the content, a lot of it does align with my philosophies on the best way to clear acne. I like how the site talks a lot about how important it is to eat well, how to eat well for the skin, and how cleanses and flushes can be incorporated into a treatment plan.
However, I feel like there’s almost something missing with the content. It’s like it lacks depth and personality which I feel is important for a reader who’s having a tough time clearing their acne. It makes so much difference to see a face behind the words (especially a clear skin face), and to know that the words are coming from someone who understands you and has been through the journey themselves.
I also find that some of the information can be misleading. There is a line in there somewhere that states that your friend who has clear skin may be like that because they lead a very healthy lifestyle. Sure while this may very well be true, I’d rather it wasn’t pointed out, because part of my depression when I had an acne condition was because I WAS leading an exceptionally healthy lifestyle but I still had acne. My problem needed to be tackled a little more holistically than just dealing with diet and exercise.
My other problem with the site is the blanket statement that prescription medications should be avoided at all times. In my experiences of working with people that have acne, giving a black or white statement like that can be quite daunting and create anxiety and pressure that they have to “cure” their acne naturally, and guilt if they do end up taking a prescription like antibiotics, even if it is just temporarily. Everybody needs to be able to make their own decisions! Hey, I took all sorts of medications to try and clear my acne, everybody should be allowed the same free will to go down whatever path they choose.
I also don’t particularly like how there is no listing of possible “dangers” or side effects to doing cleanses and flushes. When I first started researching acne I was under the impression that if you’re gutsy enough to do a cleanse or flush then you’re on your way to the best skin ever, but unfortunately not true. When I did my first (and very mild) cleanse, I had a terrible healing crisis including a bad acne breakout and a delayed ovulation which just made the acne worse again.
AND we all know what my thoughts are on popping pimples. So when I read in the site instructions on how to pop them ..I was a little bit discouraged.
However, even though I do seem to be bagging this site a lot, as I stated in the beginning, there is a lot of useful information in there. In a way it kind of made me want to go in with a red marker and clean it all up, because I think it has so much potential and just a couple of modifications could make AbsoluteAcneInfo a wonderful resource.
And hey, every resource that is out there on natural acne treatment has to be a good thing because it is making us more aware that we do have other options available to us that don’t involve doctors and dermatologists. So I do think it’s wonderful that AbsoluteAcneInfo has taken the time to develop a resource rich in alternative content that I’m sure has already helped many people.

Hi there, can you please do a post on your experience doing the flush? I’ve been considering it for a while, but it sounds like you had a bad experience and I’d like to know why and what exactly you used. I’m looking into Ayurvedic cleanses.
Fran, Thanks so much for this review! I love how balanced you are about information… I was looking at that website and it mentions not eating breakfast in order to continue your body’s fast.
What are your thoughts on that? I feel like the writer is using logic, but when it comes down to it, is skipping breakfast good for your body?
Hey Fran,
Nice little write up. Have noticed in both blog & Video channel that the Google ads that popped up at the time were chemical based products, which as a viewer I thought a little confusing.
Do you get a say on what ads come up?
I understand that people can choose what products they like just seems sad that you’ve made it so ‘pretty’, healthy & personable that you have no control on which google ads resinate with you & what your beauitful sites Aims are.
Keep up the Great writing Fran. It’s wonderful to see so many happy people benefiting from your experiences, from you Journey in Life

Hi Fran
The author heavily emphasizes raw milk, cod liver oil, and avoiding a vegan diet. What do you think?
It’s put me in a tough place. I’ve recently gone the vegan route (and gluten free) and have noticed no significant advances in my skin’s health. I identify very much with the hunger cravings the author talks about in regard to the vegan diet, but am afraid to try the raw milk/fish oil in case my body rejects them and my skin suffers.
I’m also weary of giving up the vegan thing too early. Maybe my skin is getting worse before it gets better?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Fred

Julia- I think there are absolutely no rules here. I feel that it’s important to follow what your body is asking you for. I know that I feel great if I wake up with a cup of herbal tea, then drink a smoothie when I feel hungry, followed by a more “solid” lunch when I’m hungry again. But everybody is different, you need to find your own routine. Ask for skipping breakfast to clear acne, I think that’s a little dumb to be honest.
MrsMW- Thanks for the lovely comments
And yes, unfortunately I can’t choose the ads, and I have to keep them on to pay my rent!
Fred- I think vegan diets can be great if you’re careful with what you eat and make sure you get enough iron, b12, protein, etc. Raw milk is good but milk IS one of the foods that a lot of acne sufferers find can quite easily aggravate their skin.
If you’re hungry a lot though, that’s not a good sign. Have you thought about seeing a nutritionist? They’ll definitely be able to help you with your vegan diet, to eliminate those food cravings and any other concerns you have. And NO, you do not NEED fish oil. You can have chia seed or flax instead.
It is important to note that a vegan diet does not necessarily mean clear skin. If you want to eat solely for your skin, health and well being, also look into alkaline diets, and food intolerances.
