Listen for a little recap on my journey to healthy skin, and how I’m taking my time to heal this the second time around. Fran has been talking a lot about intuition and diet, how seasons and emotions can inform our dietary habits. You might find we have a lot in common on this subject!
If you are moving into any type of new diet, cleanse, detox, or fast, take your time! Ten years ago my approach was hard and fast. I’d learn about a new diet one night, and jump into it full on the next. While it worked for me for a time, it didn’t last, and now I know to take it slow. Bring all your new knowledge with you, all your respect for the land, and all the love in your heart. Add one new practice or food at a time and get to know it before adding another.
Today I will talk a little about the benefits of soaking, fermenting, and sprouting your grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes. A practice that will provide your body with increased access to the vitamins and minerals in your food. It is so important to nourish ourselves when we are in a weakened state, whether it’s acne, poor digestion, chronic illness, or stress. This is one way to up your nutrient-ante!
I keep revisiting this topic because I feel that it’s an important one.
The other day I was talking with a friend about our food choices. He said to me that he was a “flexitarian”. I loved his concept so decided to put myself into that flexible little box too.
The more I travel the more I realise how super important it is to honor what my body is telling me to shift my diet too. In Peru my body asks for heavier more grounding foods – warming soups, spices, lots of heavy good fats – coconut oil, avocado, sacha inchi oil, along with fresh raw milk from a couple of cows that live across the road from me, free range organic eggs from a chicas garden brought to my door in a little woven basket, and bread baked that morning in my friends fire oven from locally grown organic produce. And of course lots of potato since there are 4,500 varieties of potato in Peru!!!!!!!!
In Bali, all my body wants is greens, fruits, juices and salads.. light and raw and vegan. Vegan because my body has asked for that and ethically because I don’t get a good feeling from how the local animals are treated here. It’ll all about honouring our body and honouring the land and the culture we’re in. More in the video…
Hi. This is Ally, and I love myself. Especially because right now, today, it’s Women’s Day. I make my own money, have my own driver’s license, went to university, and I can vote! I am so grateful!
I want to share a couple of things with you. One is a way to up your nutrient-ante everyday, and the next a ‘loose’ recipe. That is, a recipe where measurements are to taste, appetite and number of mouths to feed, and can feature whatever you’ve got on hand (what is seasonally available, and hence, cheaper!). Just make sure the star ingredient is a leafy green. Then swap like for like as you see fit! Just keep in mind that different vegetables have different cooking times, so chop things smaller or bigger as needed!
Come and join me and my raw chefy friend Ames Starr in Bali for a raw food retreat! I’m super excited to tell you all about this retreat that I’ll be running near Ubud in March. Check out the video and the website for more info….
That’s a bit of an extreme title isn’t it… well not really because it’s actually true. And an extreme title is called for in these extreme times! How intense is life in every which way right now. Best we can do is just to ride these waves ;)
