An Evening With Food Matters & Don Tolman

I had a very healthy Friday night last night with a dinner with the Food Matters crew and a seminar with the famous Don Tolman!

Me with James & Laurentine, the film makers of Food Matters

I thought Don Tolman was a bit of a wacko when I first saw him on the net, but his wackiness makes him just so incredibly entertaining. And it was so refreshing to attend a seminar with someone who is not only on the cutting edge of natural health, but also not afraid to make bold statements that potentially could really upset the medical industry. Go Don!

And here’s a video I recorded today about my awesome healthy night!

I just love his seven steps to wellness. They’re so basic, make so much sense and I’m sure would aboslutely work. For those of you who missed them in the video, here they are-

1. Air
2. Water
3. Sunshine
4. Wholefoods
5. Non-toxic relationships
6. Walking
7. Passion (fun/pleasure)

And here is the link to my Food Matters review if you missed it.

Does Regular Exercise Make Acne Better Or Worse?

skaterI just went for a skate along the Brisbane river and it was beautiful. I stopped half way at a quiet spot and did a 30 minute music meditation in the sun. I took my skates off and sat on one of them to help support my straight back and it was surprisingly comfortable.

Once a week I skate with a group but I go out on my own once or twice a week as well. I also walk or bike ride two or three times a week, often with a girlfriend. I’m definitely not at my peak level of fitness but this regular exercise certainly does help keep a healthy body and healthy mind.

I get asked all the time weather or not exercise is good for clearing acne. And while the answer isn’t black and white - if you do exercise every day it’s not guaranteed to clear your acne, it still certainly does help.

Why exercise is good for the skin

We all know that regular exercise is good for our health and good for our bodies, so of course it’s good for our skin. This is nothing new. Some resources I’ve read in the past also claim that the extra sweating during exercise can either help acne or make it worse, but personally I don’t feel as though this makes much of a difference.

BUT, the way that I personally feel exercise is most beneficial to the skin is for creating a healthy mind and a more positive attitude towards your problem skin. Sounds a bit trippy I know but let me explain.

I know from personal experience that whenever I’m feeling down or depressed, regular exercise is one thing that helps pick me up. Just getting my body moving, the blood flowing and my mind distracted helps tremendously.

Can Colonic Irrigation Cure Acne?

I finally gave into my colonic irrigation fear and had a series of three colonics done over three weeks.

And even though I won’t be getting another colonic done again in a hurry (or even at all), I’m glad I did this experiment because colonic irrigation is often said to be one of the best ways to “clear acne”. And I didn’t feel comfortable recommending a treatment to High on Health readers when I hadn’t personally trialled it myself.

So did it work? Watch this video to find out-

Kevin Gianni from Health Renegade has done a great video on colonics which actually shows the same system that was used when I got mine done. It’s definitely worth a look - Are Colonics Good For You?

If you’ve had a colonics experience that you’d like to share (even though it’s a bit icky I know!!) or have any questions for me, let me know in the response box below.

The Healthiest And Safest Way To Carry Around Your Water

I’ve blogged a bit in the past about how important it is to drink good quality spring water, and how plastic water bottles are a bad idea ..but I’ve never offered a good alternative. That is until now!

sigg water bottles

And I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before.

SIGG water bottles kind of made their presence known to me by just being everywhere. My friends were using them, my family was using them, everybody ..just started carrying around these cool little metallic-looking water bottles. So of course I had to have one. And now I don’t know how I lived without it.

SIGG bottles are awesome because they keep your water fresh and cool, they don’t leak any nasty toxins into your water, they’re not going to break if you drop them and most importantly for me - they come in a range of colors and pretty designs.

Keeping your water cool and away from direct sunlight is more important than you think, which is why it’s good these bottles are not clear like glass. The suns rays can interrupt the hexagonal structure of water which is why it’s better to keep your water in dark containers. However, it really depends on the quality of the water you’re drinking. Sure a dark bottle is better if your water is top quality, but if your water is not that great to begin with, then a glass bottle that has had sun exposure is not going to make that much of a difference.

SIGG bottles retail at around US$20 for a 600ml size in a plain color (the pretty designs are a little more expensive), which is quite cheap considering they last a long time so you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. A friend of mine just told me the other day that she’s had hers for about ten years now which just shows you how long they can last and how durable they are.

And if you really don’t have the money to make the investment, you can do what a good mate of mine does. He buys juice and iced tea in glass bottles and recycles them as water bottles. The advantage is you can have a few different bottles so there’s plenty spares if you lose one. And they come in all different sizes so you can choose the shape you like. The disadvantage is if you drop it, it’s going to break so they can be a little dangerous, and of course glass can be quite heavy.

I’m a bit of a clumsy girl and I like to take a bottle with me while I’m working out rollerblading so I don’t want to have to worry about falling over on top of my glass water bottle if I fall while I’m skating. So for me, investing in a SIGG bottle was definitely worth it.

And note that I’m not actually selling these bottles even though it may sound like a sales pitch :P This is just one of those things that I love and think is great and think everybody could benefit from using. Kind of for the greater good of health, helping the world etc.

Where to buy SIGG bottles

The only place in my city that stocks SIGG bottles is Biome - http://www.biome.com.au. Surprisingly I tried three of the chain camping stores in Brisbane first but they didn’t stock them. So you may find that an eco friendly store like Biome is the place to go.

There’s a worldwide store locator on their website which should help - http://www.sigg.com/en/where-to-buy/

Of course you can also buy online. Look for an online store that stocks them in the country you live in to save on postage costs.
