Daily yoga

I woke up at 6:30am this morning to do yoga and I now feel fantastic. I’ve been meaning to get into the habit of daily yoga for a long time now so hopefully this is the start of a healthy habit. The way I feel now makes getting up that extra hour early so worth it. It’s not a fitness thing either. It’s an overall feeling of wellbeing. I feel quite calm now and relaxed and ready for the day.

I did find I was quite stiff and my stomach was rumbling a bit because I was hungry but everything else went really well. I was able to take my time and really enjoy it. Maybe the mornings are better for me because I’m more dopey and relaxed. In the afternoons or evenings I’m processing the day and thinking about all the other things I want to get done so I get impatient and rush through it.

I’m looking forward to getting up early all this week and doing yoga! :)

I am interested in taking up yoga. There are a number of different types, is there one that is better than the others? Also, is it best to do yoga on an empty stomach?

The yoga I go to incorporates a few different forms, and focuses a lot on spirituality. There’s also yoga that’s more modern and focused on fitness which I don’t think is as beneficial as the spiritual type.

It’s best not to eat 2 hours before practicing yoga.

This is the website of my yoga school:

I recommend Bikram Yoga - it’s yoga inside a boiling hot sauna. Bring your water! In Brisbane there is one at Bardon.

I’ve studied all types of yoga, and love it. I’m not flexible, strong or balanced - exactly why I need yoga! It definitely helps my stress level and has drastically reduced all my menopause stuff. (giving away my age? no, I’m actually YOUNGER than the average menopause gal)….

I love yoga too. And I manage to find a website where you can get free downloads of the exercises ( beginners onwards).Or just watch online and follow the class. The view is breathtaking as the class is done outside.
It is at http:www.yogatoday.com

How long are your daily sessions?
I find I can’t do more then half an hour at a time at home.

I had terrible insomnia for almost a year and nothing worked
(not herbs or sleeping pills) until one day I did yoga and I slept like a baby! It took me a couple of days to realize it was the yoga and if I don’t do yoga for a couple of days I end up having a restless sleep.

Hi Lydia, about an hour now …I always find time for it because it’s so beneficial for me.

That’s great that the yoga helps you sleep :)
