Discover The Truth About Diet And Acne

fruit.jpgI’ve already posted a few articles on food and acne, but I thought I’d record a series of videos as well because I’ve got a lot to say about it.

This is the first one I recorded. It talks about why the food you eat can aggravate your acne, and why at the same time it’s important not to become too obsessed about what you eat.

I’ve always been fascinated with food. I don’t drink alcohol or take drugs or even go to clubs anymore so food is my small pleasure in life! I love to eat well too, and have studied a bit of nutritional medicine at the Australian College of Natural Medicine. I was so overwhelmed when I did my study at how complex food and ‘eating well’ can be. And I was also very surprised to discover that I wasn’t eating as well as I thought.

The next video in this series will be available soon.

I recently discovered your videos on YouTube and have been reading about your articles. Your holistic approach to treating acne has inspired me to yoga and the awareness of what I eat. I’ve started to intake more fruits, veggies and water and reduce chocolate, alcohol, soda and coffee. Your topics are fantastic and I can’t wait for your diet+acne video series.
Thank you :)

My skin is radiant whenever I quit the sugar and I feel great, my only difficulty with the diet is I never feel full. Without my end-of-meal treat, I’ll just keep eating and eating because I never feel full or satisfied for the matter.

Hi Hannah, it must be your mind tricking you into thinking you need desert :) I know what you mean though, that’s happened to me before too.

I find that eating fresh or dried fruit helps a lot. Even eating a piece of wholmeal toast with jam (you can buy jam that doesn’t have added sugar) or honey seems to do the trick.

Hi fran,
Ive just discovered your blogs today after desperately searching around on internet for an acne cures. Your stuff is amazing! I can tell you are very knowledgable on all the topics you talk about, and also that you have done extensive research. Thankyou! I love you’re down to earth appoaches and I totally agree with you thoughts on how taking the natural way is the best way.

Just wondering, how did you get started on all this (your extensive research and drive to help others with this area)? I also noticed, with the text above this video, that you said you dont drink or go to clubs anymore, why is that?

Again, thanks so much, its so nice to see people caring about and helping others,
God Bless!

Hi sophia,

I used to have an alternative health blog, but started to write A LOT about acne when I ended up getting severe acne myself. So I changed the blog to skin care and acne treatment simply because I was doing some much research and trial and error with my skin.

I don’t drink now because of my dedication to my yoga practice, but this article explains why I stopped in the first place:

Hi Fran,
I love you’re videos, and you’re knowledge with health care. I have been having problems, with acne in the last month. I’m 22 and have never had problems before. I recently changed my diet from being a vegan, to eating cheeses, and cage free eggs. I also have been eating a lot of sugar. All because of stress. I have been lacking in my yoga. I don’t know what will motivate me again to be more healthy. I’m going to by some cacao beans today after work, that is one thing I haven’t tried.

hi fran
thanks for your very informative video. i just wanted to ask you, how did you know you had candida ? and did you eliminate all sugar including honey and fruit ?
you also said to eat foods that are easily digested ….but you eat bread and grains and they are hard to digest arnt they ?

#10 Fran on 03.26.09 at 10:05 am

Hi Rachella, I learned about Candida from Truth Calkins and following his recommendation with the Body Ecology Diet book. I’m not quite there yet but eventually I would like to do an experiment with eliminating all sugars including honey and most fruits (blueberries, green apples and pineapple are okay).

For grains, I’m working towards eating only quinoa, buckwheat, amaranth and millet. And these should be soaked and fermented overnight before eating to make them easily digestible. I tried making a bread recipe with soaked buckwheat and quinoa but it tasted terrible! So I might just stick to simple grain dishes :)

Hey Fran!
I’ve been on your mini-course for a few months now. I’ve stopped drinking pops and drinks with high in sugar, and stopped using expensive cleansers for my skin. I rarely use anything but lukewarm water to wash my face, and the only medical product I use is BP. It has worked WONDERS for me! Also, the face-soak with tea-tree oil worked very well. I am now left with only a few minor pimples, and some scarring from the acne which i am treating with gentle exfoliation and moisturization. I just wanted to say THANKYOU for all your hard work, it’s greatly appreciated all around the world. I am a 17-year-old male from CANADA, who is usually embarrassed to talk about acne.
Thankyou again Fran! :)

Hey Fran,

I really and truly desperatly need your help. You see, I am 12 years of age and i have pretty bad acne for my condition. I found you on youtube and I found you inspiring. I’m going back to school soon and I’m terrified of what I’m going to have to do about my acne. My acne all came about when I got my hair cut witch was pretty short for what I’m used to. It all started with one measly bumb then went down hill from there. I took a picture of my self in the morning and looked at it later that day and nearly started crying at the sight of my face. I hate to have my picture taken and when I go to public places such as wal-mart I walk with my face angled down so none may see it. I once slapped my own face because I thought I had done this to my self. I dont eat very well because my Grandparents usually eat out at like McDonalds and what not. My diet consists of mainly fast food and soft drinks and it been like that for along time. I think it must of been my hair that caused this outbreak. Even though I wash my hair regurly. Please help me in any way you can. Even my own Father told me that I look terrible. I’m willing to do anything to get rid of this horrid curse. PLEASE!!! Your my last hope.

Sincerly, Casey Ann Anderson

Ps. I’m desperate…

Hi Casey,

I’m sorry that you’re having a really difficult time with your skin. It is very tough at your age.

How about your get your mum and dad to read my blog? Then the three of you can work out a plan of action for your skin :)

But please remember that it’s also VERY normal to have acne at your age. In fact, most teenagers do. It’s very, very normal.

Take care and much love! ..fran

Hey Fran : )
Your videous are really great, they have opened my eyes to things I would never have considered such as lowering the sugar foods I eat.
Im currently on anti-biotics and I’m interested in what you say about Candida. How can I cut this down? Is their any specific foods I can buy to help me whilst on anti-biotics? Thanks, Stephen x

#17 Fran on 08.18.09 at 6:53 pm

Hi Stephen, take some prebiotics and probiotics while on the medication. The best source is kefir, but you can buy probiotics from health stores too :)
