Eating By Listening To Your Intuition & Why I Eat What I Eat

Did I ever tell you the story about how I first became a health geek? I’m sure I did but I’ll tell you again in case you forgot. YEARS ago I visited a naturopath because I had a few little things not working well for me, I had dry skin, a bit of insomnia, hayfever, etc.

And although natural therapies were not new to me, I hadn’t met a therapist that was quite so blunt. This guy told me that my diet was “poor”. I was SO HORRIFIED that I made huge changes to my diet right then. And those changes spiraled deeper and deeper until I became hugely passionate about alternative health and longevity.. so much so that I actually loved visiting health stores as kind of a thing to do in my spare time, and researching health stuff was what I did for fun.

I’ve settled back down quite a lot now. But I’m still in some way conscious of what I eat. But not in a way that you’d think… more in the video…

[..YouTube..] Totally agree with you Fran, we are suppose to “enjoy” the gift of food in as healthy a way as we can, if we are all dogmatic and stressed about what we put in our bodies that can be as detrimental or worse then the actual food we consume. Be responsible for your health in all ways, but always be gracious for the gift’s we receive and food is as much a gift as love and friendship a roof over our heads, our health nature etc. etc. etc. Enjoy your insight and thoughts always..blessings (;

I also think its so important to not be so rigid with diet. It can so easily lead to disordered eating and a unhealthy relationship to food. eat for nourishment of body/mind/spirit. thanks for sharing

Timskees2003- yeh, out of everything I tried cutting out all grains to limit my carb intake was the best I ever felt. But it’s really only awesome for those of us who are fast oxidisers. blessings!

Selenasking – hah funny! I grew up with vegemite so I do love it.. with butter on toast..yuuummmm… but I haven’t had it in years.. it’s yeast extract so when I was working with a candida overgrowth I gave it up. I was at a friends the other day and they had a tube of it (in Peru of all places!) and it was nice just to smell it ;)

Hi Fran, just want to start off by saying i’ve been following your blog on and off for a few years and i love the transformation into the more spiritual topics! Lovelove.
anyway, what I want to ask about is your meditation practice. I’ve been a on and off meditator for a few years but it’s hard to keep the practice, could you do a video on meditation, techniques, frequency and your experiences with it?
you’re a great inspiration! xo

Beautiful video! It’s my favorite one in a while, probably because it spoke to me so much. I whole heartedly believe in intuitive eating. Unfortunately, I think the vibrations of NYC interfere with my body and soul sometimes. I’d love to see how my body would respond to a more gentle, natural environment. I can’t speak to location but I do know my body craves much more raw in the summer and cooked foods in the winter. I could go on and on about how important I feel this is but you pretty much covered it!
Ps. The mountains in the background look so wonderful!

facelessfatloss- thank you for your comment.. and that’s super interesting because that’s the second time in a couple of days I’ve been told that perhaps I have a metal deficiency. I think I’m Earth… I ALWAYS crave chocolate before my moon.. my body wants the magnesium.. I wonder if that’s a metal thing too? x

Hi Fran,
What a wonderful video, thank you.

I was wondering…. You journey all over the world to different countries seems so wonderful, but how is it to be apart from family and friends so much?

Take care.

Elizabeth- I don’t miss people so much… I have many beautiful friends and what I call family here in Peru and if I have that kind of community where I travel to then I really don’t miss friends and family that I’ve left behind in whatever location. When I’m traveling alone to places where I don’t know anyone then I miss having friends around.. but in a way that’s kind of the point, to put myself in an uncomfortable situation to grow more ;)

Hi Fran,
I have been depressed for the last few months. I used jojoba oil in March for the whole month. It caused a lot of small white bumps all over my face. Therefore I stopped using it. I went to 6 facial session to extract the clogged pores but the bumps consistently came back. Until now, I am still battling with bumps and pimples that were once bumps. I blame myself for using jojoba oil. I don’t think my skin would be that bad if I did not use it. Fran, please help me. The bumps have really affected my self-esteem.

#42 Fran on 07.31.12 at 7:20 am

Hi Bear, jojoba oil mimiks out skins own natural sebum production so it helps to balance out what may be over or under active. The clogged pores you experienced were normal and would pass with time, most of them not even turning into inflammations. Clogged pores have no bacteria, they are just congestion. And remember, while jojoba is a good way to encourage our skin to balance back to its natural state, if you’re still getting acne then you will most likely need to work on the inside out too.

Why is it that I am still getting them after stopping jojoba oil for months? Also, my facialist told me that my skin is dehydrated and not dry, that is, too much oil but not enough water. Hence I don’t think jojoba oil is right for me. I should have not used it at all :(

I love this video Fran, I guess because I’ve gone through the same things – it seems like the more you read about nutrition, the more stressed you get and the more rigid you get, and it’s so much harder to just enjoy food. No matter what food and food group out there, someone has a GREAT argument about why humans shouldn’t eat it. If it were true, there’d be nothing to eat. I’ve also begun moving into more intuitive eating lately and not over thinking everything, and also not doing any diets were I cut out any whole food group. I also enjoy dessert if I want it! And really enjoy it! It feels wonderful.

Hi, Fran,

Really enjoyed your video and have been reading through some other posts. You’re reminding me that I have some deeper work to do. I’ve been so, so, so stressed out about food/diet recently and it feels awful. Just awful. Thank you for the sweet gift of this post. I have to go inside and do the emotional work. Even your comments about the feminine were dead on: exactly what I needed to hear. Much thanks and good blessing and karma to you!

Mindy
