Has Anybody Tried Dr Joshi’s Holistic Detox?

joshi-detox_review.jpg

I flicked through this really great book in the bookshop the other day, ‘Dr Joshi’s Holistic Detox’. Has anyone tried it? I’m determined to do a proper food only detox to see if it clears up my acne. And I love how Joshi’s detox allows you to keep eating food. I don’t think I’m one of those people that can go on a ‘juice only for 5 days’ detox or a detox where you fast for a week. I need to eat food. If I don’t, I’ll get hunger pains and cranky and nobody will want to come anywhere near me.

So, I’m considering buying the book and trying it. Possibly between my birthday in November and Christmas, because I know I’ll be eating a lot of foods on those days that would not be allowed in any detox (unfortunately). The only thing holding me back really is the no fruit thing. Fruit gives me so much energy and I love eating it every day. Perhaps I could do Joshi’s detox, but with fruit as well.

I have a great book that suggests that during a detox it is okay to eat the following fruit: Granny Smith apples, lemons, limes, grapefruit, tomatoes, olives and avocadoes.

Oh, tomatoes, olives and avocadoes are fruits!? I thought avocadoes where…I don’t know ….something on their own but REALLY good for you.

I’d be interested to know when you start your detox Fran and how you go about it.
My best ever detox was in Nepal. No Dairy, No Sugar & No Fruit because none of it was available nor did i crave for any of it. Amazing considering my very poor determination in Brisvegas.
However over there I seemed to just ‘copy’, ‘adopt’, accept local eating habits happily, which consisted on lentils, rice & pickled vegetables where available. My skin was the best it has ever been. 8 weeks of immaculate smooth clear skin until i came home 3 years ago to my mothers funeral which also triggered a good ole binge of chocolate!!!
I still do not eat much fruit since that trip even though I was once a big fruit eater!

i have done it & it was excellent! remember you can still eat bananas so you’re not totally deprived of fruit & i felt full of energy whilst on it! if you are already healthy, dont expect to lose heaps of weight, it more makes your body more clean & therefore more energy efficient! i really strongly reccomend this as the only safe detox around where they aren’t pumping you full of tablets to make up for such a lack of minerals. He is a genius! & i think gwyneth paltrow refers to him a lot!

I am one week into this Detox and its really working for me. I’ve tried two or three others including the Liver Cleanse detox and the Gillian McKeith one, this is far more rounded and somehow seems to make more sense, it has loads of detail on meditation and Ayurvedic types which is very interesting. Also he doesn’t veto having treats now and then which is great.

The first time I did Joshi’s detox it wasn’t easy. By the end of the 21 days both my body and mind felt so great, that now I do this detox 2-3 times a year. I love it. It is well rounded with healthy foods.

i have been doing this for 2 weeks now and i feel great!! although i did drink a fair bit 4 days ago at a friends party, it was free alcohol, i couldnt resist! i did the liver flush drink the day after this and felt awesome! much better than what i feel like after eating the usual hangover food – greasy hamburgers or kebabs! ive found it easy to stick to and am going to keep it up for longer than 21 days! the only thing ive really missed is sauces and dressings really!

I have done this detox twice before now and I am just starting it again for the 3 rd time. It is VERY effective, however it is quite hard to stick to as no fruit and I do find my food bland for 21 days however if you can stick at it its worth it

I will be starting the program for the first time… To what extent do you think is important to follow the organic- only vegetables rule of the program? How did you all who have done it approached it?

I tried to buy organic where I could, but went to fruit and veg shop for rest as still fresher than supermarket. I also got Milk thistle and and a B6 vitamine, and some linseed as my system jammed a bit! I am missing a cup of tea and craving sweet things, the headaches are passing now, and I am on day 5…. good luck…. honey for sweet and lemon for dressing has been by saviour
