Have You Used Salicylic Or Glycolic Acid To Treat Your Acne?

Here’s another “Ask Fran” video. Thank you to everyone that’s been posting to the ask Fran forum, it’s definitely given me a lot to talk about in my videos!

Here are the questions that I answered in this video from sailorjerry007 and masso1234 -

Questions:

  1. I’m using a product by Peter Thomas Roth “Anti Aging Gel Cleanser” it has both salicylic and glycolic (doesn’t give the exact % of each). It’s helping but its giving me this shiny “film” like substance(oil slick) on my forehead about 1 hour after using it and the shiny film stays with me all day. I stopped using the oil free moisturizer and it still happens.
  2. I recently developed a lot of whiteheads and some black heads from using the OCM. I’ve been using a product with .5% salicylic acid and other purging ingredients to help speed things up. Since using it, the size of my whiteheads have gone down, but I’ve also noticed smaller ones popping up. Is this a good thing, like some of the gunk finally coming to the surface, or should I consider using a new product?

And if you want to ask me a question to answer in one of my videos, ask here in the forum.

just a little advice about your videos…
they’re great and everything, but would
you consider setting the camera level
a little higher. The backround light is
a little dim also.

Thanks in advance for considering

Hi, Fran!
I am using Glycolac Peel, which is Glycolic + Lactic acid together 60%. Works great!
I do it every week and my skin is moisten, soft and scars are sort of diminished. I would highly recommend it!
Ask me, if you need more info!
Love!

Thank you Kate for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I’ve been feeling like my videos are a little too much like a talking head lately so all ideas are welcome.

Hi Fran,
Thanks for your video…
Your blog has helped so much in understanding my own skin problems… it’s definitely toxic build up in the skin, and oils do really make it worse.
Thanks!
Arti

Fran, please do not be offended that I am giving you a compliment in your response box. I just noticed that I haven’t watched you on a live video for more than a few months now, and it is amazing how you are growing into such an awesome looking women and amazing person.

Your friend,

Andrew

I use a apot treatment with salicylic acid (2%) and at first it was working great but now I have had a major breakout that won’t go away no matter what I do. Any advice would be awesome. My self esteem is horrible because of this nasty breakout. Thanks!

I have been using sal. acid 1% and glycolic acid 20% for about two weeks now. I didnt pick at the little white heads for a while but evey pore seems clogged. I am not all red. Should i continue to use the glycolic acid because i feel like it burns the scabs and makes them scar.

Layla- Start with following the steps in my mini-course: http://www.highonhealth.org/newsletter.php and sift through the forum and my articles (click on the “acne” link at the top of the page)

Adriana- Not every SA or GA product actually works. If it’s not doing it’s job, which is deep exfolianting your pores, then try a different brand. Make sure you look the product up on http://www.makeupalley.com for reviews first. AND if the GA feels like it’s burning your skin, please stop using it!

Thank you. I have been using 10% glycolic acid for 2 weeks. Its probably the most affordable and best glycolic acid product EVER. It’s DAN’s. Just like fran im getting rough patches near my upper nose area. I had a really bad breakout on my chin that is finally going away. I didn’t really get any purging on my forhead but my nose is breaking out like crazy(from purging). The places on my skin that are clear are baby smooth and soft.I’m still in the purging process but i really love this product.btw its supposed to sting a little. well my skin doen’t sting when i put it on so i asked dan and he said its most likely my skin isn’t sensitive. but usually it stings for other people.
