How To Make Your Own “Healthy” Christmas Presents

Christmas presentI’ve decided this year that I’m going to put a little extra love into my Christmas presents by making some of them myself.

I’m also doing this for selfish reasons. Apart from a good excuse to write a blog post (hey, it’s work!), it’s also a wonderful way to make a few Christmas presents to give myself. It’s one of those “one for them, one for me” things.

So here are the presents I’ve been working on (and hopefully my friends and family won’t look at my blog before Christmas otherwise the surprise will have been given away!) ..

Home Made Bath Salts

I love, love, love having baths. Having a good soak is a great way to relax, loosen up sore muscles, and even detox if you’re using the right bath salt mix. So here are a couple of recipes I’ve been working on for friends of mine:

1. Rose petal bath salts

bath salts

This is a beautiful girls mix because it’s pink and smells like flowers. This mix is made for luxury.

Ingredients

400g epsom salts
200g sea salts
1 cup of dried rose petals or buds
1-2 Tbsp pink or red clay
60 drops of rose geranium essential oil

2. Detox bath salts

This mix is great for gently detoxing the body. The amount of detoxing it does really depends on how much of the mix you add to your bath. Naturopaths usually recommend adding 500g of epsom salts to a bath to detox the body which is a lot!

Ingredients

400g epsom salts
200g sea salts
1-2 Tbsp yellow or red clay
1 cup of dried calendula leaves
1/2 cup of dried lemongrass
30 drops of Australian lemon myrtle essential oil
18 drops of juniper essential oil
12 drops of cypress essential oil

Loving Preparation

Mix the salts, clay and dried buds/leaves before you add the essential oils. Thoroughly mix all ingredients then store in a air tight glass jar for one week before using.

Ferrero Rawchers

I’m a huge fan of the traditional ferrero rochers but let’s face it, there’s nothing particularly nutritious about them. Not that a little indulgance is a problem from time to time, but I did work my way through an entire giant box of ferrero rochers one Christmas holidays so a healthier version of these little bites of heaven are a great idea. At least this way if you eat a whole box you’re eating a whole box of nutrition!

And this Christmas present is going out to a very beautiful friend of mine who has a HUGE chocolate addiction just like me :)

I picked up this recipe from one of my favorite raw food bloggers, Carmella from the Sunny Raw Food Kitchen. She posted this recipe on the Raw Freedom Community forum, which is a forum I’m going to be visiting a lot now that I’ve discovered it!

And just to prove to you that I did actually make them, here’s a photo of my creations-
