Yesterday I travelled to Sydney with a group of friends to see the Dalai Lama speak publicly. It was a truly beautiful experience and I feel so blessed that I was given the opportunity to be in the same room as the Dalai Lama in this life time.
It was actually quite funny how all of us had trouble keeping our eyes open during his speech. Granted we were all quite tired because we’d been up since the crack of dawn to catch the flight to Sydney, but there must have been something about his beautiful aura and his soothing voice that made us all want to drop off into sleep. In fact a couple my friends did and I was close behind!
I guess what really stood out for me in the talk was the idea of how important knowledge is, and how it’s a good idea for each and every one of us to be continuously educating ourselves. But at the same time it’s also important to gain this knowledge with an open heart.
To me this sums up my business and how I run my life perfectly and I guess this is why his statement resonated so well with me.
This blog and my coaching program require me to constantly research and experience new ideas in the area of alternative health and natural skin care. Which of course crosses over into my personal and spiritual life. In fact, each and every day I’ve been making a conscious effort to acquire new knowledge in some shape or form … and I love it this way.
And this year my heart has become a lot more open which has made me live and experience my life in a completely new way. I’ve begun to put love into every interaction I have and everything I do and it’s shown me how beautiful and joyful life can be.
So definitely acquiring new knowledge with an open heart is something that I’m enjoying the process of and I’m stoked the Dalia Lama talked about it in his public speech.
He is a such an amazingly beautiful, humble human being and I feel so incredibly blessed to have had the opportunity to attend his public speech in Sydney.

Lucky you, I wonder who the next Dalai Lama will be considering how much has changed in the world since the last one gained his title?
I was going to attend the Parliament of World Religions in Australia, where the Dalai Lama was speaking, but the trip was too expensive. That’s great that you saw him speak!
@Kevin – The current Dalai Lama said he would no longer seek reincarnation, and whether he would reincarnate would depend on the will of the Tibetan people. This was the Tibetan governments response:
“Without the approval from the central government, whatever he (the Dalai Lama) says is not valid. The reincarnation is not something the Dalai Lama can decide on his own,” Legqog said.”
Obviously, it’s the spirit’s choice whether or not it reincarnates. That’s the whole point. But the Dalai Lama is saying that if the will of the people want it, then he’ll reincarnate.
May God show you the way to the great and beautiful path of your life.
Hi Fran,
I wasn’t raised to believe in one philosophy or religion (Buddhist mother, Baptist father), but rather to appreciate whatever teachings resonated with me most at any given time. As far as Buddhist philosophy goes, I’ve found the writings and teachings of the Dalai Lama, Thích Nhất Hạnh, and Pema Chödrön to be the most accessible – they are real people in the modern world writing about how they approach life and problems with which one would never think such a devout person might struggle. One of the most important ways all of them, through their teachings, have touched me recently was assuring that it was OK to let myself fall apart when my father died. Very useful and amazing stuff.
I also find a lot of inspiration from the song writer and band leader of my favorite band, Poi dog Pondering. Frank is a very real person, and uses his music and heart to influence people with positivity about living life, loving, making mistakes, always learning, and staying true to yourself.
I’m happy you had such an inspiring experience. Thanks for sharing, and for inviting us to share, as always.
Best,
Misha
