My 28 Day Full Body Detox: Day 1!

I started a 28 day detox today! I know it’s weird that I didn’t tell you that I was planning for a long detox, but time just crept up on me and all of a sudden detox day arrived. This video tells you all about this awesome detox that I’m doing-

I haven’t done an offical detox program before, but I’m very curious about it and want to try one soon. It would be awesome if you did a video listing the different types of detoxes that are out there.

It would be cool if you did something similar to your raw program, where you did video updates every few days. But I’m not sure if we need daily journal updates about the detox since there are no recipes. =)

Hi Fran,

Good luck on your cleanse! I’m really looking forward to hearing how your detox goes.

I’ve been reading your blog for a while and it has definitely inspired me to look at how my diet is affecting my skin and health so thankyou!

Hey Fran! Happy first day of your detox!

I’m so happy you’re doing this for the first time and in a public forum, because I’ve recently started a cleanse and I couldn’t find a cleanse buddy (my boyfriend wants to observe first hand my process and results before diving in himself). There’s a ton of great information and helpful people out there doing other cleanses, but it’s so different from the comfort of having someone with whom you can share the blissful, enlightening, and difficult moments.

After much reading and self-evaluation, I decided to do a three-part detox. I prepared/started with a 30-day herbal cleanse and body hydration with my normal, mostly vegetarian diet. I’m now on day 12 of the second part, a P&B shake colon cleanse with an alkalizing vegetarian diet. I’m planning to continue it until I am happy with the results of what I’ve flushed out (I think you know what I mean), up to 8 weeks if necessary. I’ll take it day-by-day. Then I’m following that with a liver and kidney detox, for at least 2 weeks. I know I’ve left out details (e.g. skin brushing, tonic teas, physical activities, reading), but that’s the general plan.

Thus far the noticeable benefits for me have been deeper sleep and a clearer mind during the day (great for work!). I have had a couple of headaches, two nights of waking up frequently to urinate (3 or 4 times!), and a minor breakout earlier this week of 3 pimples (on my chin and between my eyebrows, so liver and hormones). So far, nothing emotional, which for me after a particularly difficult year is unusual…and great! Since these are known potential effects, I’m not concerned and feel great so far. I do feel that the cleanse has deepened in the past day (probably from increasing amounts of toxins being released), so I am going to try taking a nap during the day, switch to more gentle exercise (long walks, restorative yoga), and hold off on rebounding.

I’m looking forward to hearing about your progress and process, and I’d especially love to hear what physical and emotional effects you feel over time. I recommend keeping a daily text journal for yourself, posting selections on the blog as you see fit, and doing video post updates every 5 days as you did with your raw diet month.

Good luck, and I hope you have a healthy and enlightening cleanse!

I think you should do a video everyday or every other day. What is a good, short, simple beginner detox?

Egh is it really hard to drink the clay??

#7 anne on 03.12.10 at 9:26 am

what herbs are in the herbal tonic tyou take 5 times daily?

#8 Fran on 03.12.10 at 9:54 am

chrissi1981- It’s called Multiflora from Othoplex. I think you need to get local because you have to buy them in the fridge and keep them cold.

Veronika- There are probably thousands of detoxes! The key is finding one that makes you excited and motivated to do it OR just do what David Wolfe does- he tries whatever “just turns up” in front of him.

Misha- Beautiful, sounds like a great plan you’ve got going there :)

Liz- 100% raw for 30 days is a great beginners detox because it’s incredibly gentle.

Ang- Yes! But I mix in a little organic pomegranate or unsweetened cranberry juice which makes it almost pleasurable!

Anne- There are A LOT and they don’t tell us what they all are :) Check out http://www.ariseandshine.com for information on a similar detox and similar herbs. (I would have done that exact one but it’s too expensive to get it shipped to Australia)

Good luck on your detox Fran! Second one so far this year… they must work! Of course this one you just started I am sure is a lot different then just eating all raw food.

Anne, you can read specifically about the ingredients in the Arise and Shine Chomper and Herbal Nutrition Tonics here: http://www.detox.net.au/Cleansing-body-transition-Detox-Diet-Cleanse-Recipes.htm
or here:

Mullumbimby Herbals doesn’t list the ingredients in their tincture, herb mix or capsules, which should be the same as what you find above, but it would be strange and maybe illegal if you asked and they didn’t tell you.

#11 Fran on 03.12.10 at 1:45 pm

Misha- Oh of course they’d tell me! I just haven’t asked because I know there are a total of 80+ herbs or something in the mix. They’re incredibly lovely at Mullum herbals so I’m certain that help out if I asked :)

Hi Fran..
I have another question, haha. I want to order one of the skin packs soon, but I don’t know which one. Both sound awesome, is there one that you think is better for oily skin?

And I wanted to wish you good luck with the detox, that also sounds great! Maybe I’ll do it too in the future :)

Thanks!

#13 Misha on 03.13.10 at 9:53 am

Sorry! I didn’t mean to make it sound like they wouldn’t! That’s what I get for typing my thought stream directly. They are indeed lovely at MH :) I really intended to say for Anne that *any* producer of a detox or cleanse product, including Mullumbimby, would tell you the ingredients if you asked, and if a maker or shop or naturopath didn’t then it would certainly be weird. Happy Saturday!

hey fran! i’m excited to hear about your detox. i feel like you couldn’t possibly have many toxins though considering how healthy you’ve been eating for so long!!

i was wondering what your thoughts were on food combining. i’ve started researching it and am thinking of incorporating it into my mostly raw and vegetarian diet. the only part that is really hard for me to wrap my head around is not drinking water with or after meals. this seems very odd to me. however, not having fruit before a meal and not combining proteins and starches makes sense. do you have any opinions on all this stuff?

#15 Violet on 03.13.10 at 11:36 am

Enjoy your detox! I have never done one, but I am very interested in it. Therefore it is great to hear about your experiences which are so inspiring and motivating. Keep up the posts please :)

#16 Fran on 03.15.10 at 9:07 am

Linda- Both are good for oily skin, but I’d go with the Bee Yummy ..the skin soothe seems more hydrating.

C- Oh I have loads of toxins in me! I’ve been having a bit of a tough time releasing then actually. A video will be up about it today!!!

Yeah food combining is great, especially the being careful with when you eat fruit thing. I try not to drink water with meals either but that’s a tough one :)

Hi Fran,
I think the efficacy of Spirulina is affected by sunlight; I notice you had it in a clear jar. Might want to check that one.
Good stuff,
Matt
