My Favorite Hand Creams For Beating Winter Dry Skin

Every winter when the weather gets dry my skin gets dry along with it. It has been particularly bad since I’ve been in Toronto. I think because I shocked my body from going to a hot Fiji and Hawaii to a freezing Canada, AND the central air in the places I’ve been staying in are even more drying to the skin.

I’ve recorded a video on my personal favorite hand creams and a couple of extra things I do to keep my hands hydrated during the dry months:

And here are the products I referred to in my video.

1. Garnier Hand Cocoon

You know, after recording this video I realized that Garnier was in fact a Canadian brand. Duh! So of course the best range of Garnier products is going to be here. That’s cool.

So hand cocoon has kind of changed its look in some countries since I’ve used it (so look for either name), so it may be called Hand Repair Intensive Restoring Hand Cream. I’ve done some research and I’ve checked up on MUA and both products seem to be the same. Great, I can’t wait to buy some because my hands are really old lady like right now, even with the application of hand moisturizer throughout the day. I need it bad.

2. Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater Hand Therapy

I have to thank my friends Sarah and Will for this beautiful product. It’s not as good as the Garnier but I love, love, love the smell. If you’re like me and you don’t like wearing perfume, then this is a great option - wear a moisturizing hand cream that not only helps keep your hands hydrated, but also makes you smell like you’re wearing a beautiful perfume. That’s awesome.

3. Australian Bush Flower Essences Travel Essences Cream

If you can find this line of products in your local health food store then they’re definitely worth trying. They’re amazing because while they’re hydrating and moisturizing your skin, they’re also looking after your emotional care and well being. Wow, trippy but I love that.

Here is what the website says about this product:

This combination particularly addresses the problems encountered with jet travel. It enables a person to arrive at their destination feeling balanced and ready to go. The use of this Essence is beneficial for all forms of travel.

Its really good to see that you’re doing reviews for products that arent necessarily related to acne. Because often we stop worrying about acne and instead other things like your hands for instance.it kinda blows that all the good products are australian and we cant get it. : ( . But keep up the great work! : )

P.S I use a moisturizer for my hands thats also good for guys (as well as girls) and its from “tone” and its cocoa butter with something else but its not sickly sweet like old lady’s perfume.

Kevin, agreed. Especially when my acne was really bad and I was writing a lot about it, I felt like I was TOO focused on it. Sometimes it’s nice to think about other stuff too, especially something as luxurious as hand creams.

Yeah, sorry about the Australian products. Now I’m in Canada I should start looking around for others.

That’s really great how you’ve got a good hand cream :)

Canada is massive so you should have fun looking for your products. I dont know how you can jump from desert australia to chilly canada so soon. it must be hard getting used to.But you know how hot it can get on an island and today was the first day of the rainy season so I can hold off on getting a moisterizer. But can you recommend any for my face thats not too thick and will leave my skin cool and refreshed for most of the day? I really dont want anything that can clog my pores.

P.S Nice hairstyle in the vid.People are always telling me to keep my hair off my forehead in case my hair produces oil.I never listen to them though. : )

Yeah that’s silly what people say. Unless your hair is super oily, wear it however you want - my hair has never giving me a pimple. And thanks for the compliment :)

Have a look at my forum post to see what moisturizers I’m currently using on my face. They are both good ones and not too thick. They will also not clog your pores.

Also have a look at that article I wrote about how to find a product that’s non-comedognic. Look at the ingredients of a product and check the first 8 ingredients. If they check out okay then it’s safe to use:

You know the thing about the hair is true, but not for everyone. For me it is.

To the better understanding I have to tell, I don’t really have much pimples, only once a month some show AND (what I think is wired) mostly always ONE big pimple that just takes months to go away *hmpf*

Now to the hair. I only tried to wear bangs for once but the result was a bad break out of the skin UNTER that hair. Long time I didn’t realize why till I noticed similarities with my back and jawline. Well, it seems that I react to sweat with getting pimples when the skin is unable to breath there because of tight cloth (bra) or because I like to prop my head on my hand while working on the PC (which I do hours a day).

I wonder what that means for me now. I don’t think this can be fixed but maybe decreased…

Wow Nico, thanks for posting. It sounds like your skin is very reactive! Sweat is definitely one of the biggest causes of body acne, so I guess it can cause acne on the face as well.

Interesting how you had such an immediate reaction to the hair on your face …I guess for some it happens, others like me not so much.

You will find that you’ll get less pimples from these things if you exfoliate regularly. That includes exfoliating your face, back and areas on your body that you breakout. For your body, you can use one of those sponge puff ball things that people use in the shower with body wash. That or a loofa, but loofas can be a little too harsh.
