My First Real Life Workshop On Cacao The Amazing Superfood

I ran my very first “real life” workshop on the weekend on my favorite topic – cacao!

I had a group of twenty-five people with me on the day making raw chocolate which got a bit hectic but I was so deliriously happy to be able to spread the word about this amazing superfood that we can all eat bucket loads of and enjoy sooooo much.

Unfortunately you missed out on the actual making of the raw chocolate, but I filmed the talk so you could be a part too. Enjoy …

Hey Fran, would you mind sharing the recipe for your raw chocolate? I actually eat cacao nibs regularly and take spirulina everyday so I am really interested in this recipe. Thanks!!

I had a question regarding agave nectar, is it true that it has as much high fructose as high fructose corn syrup does, and is much as processed?? Other than that… wow yes cacao beans have been part of mexico for centuries. In an interesting note everywhere you go in Mexico they always sell true cocunut water or cocunut slices in their natural state form. I know because I have visited several times and have eaten and have drinked in many of my journeys the delicious taste of cocunut water. Its a big thing in their culture over there (in Mexico). Im really impressed!!! I loved your video keep it up!!! I agree with the comments above…your such a great role model!!! I have learned so much!!!

Sorry, but I was also wondering if you prefer to buy cacao beans and just peel them or do you like the nibs… do they taste fresher out of the bean? Ive only had the nibs and think theyre great! Thanks again

Gosh! Thank you to everyone with all the beautiful kind words! You’ve definitely made my Monday morning :)

mary- It may be hard to buy shelled, but cacao nibs are shelled so you could get those. Otherwise have fun shelling them yourself!

Kelly- Absolutely, I’ll do a blog post about the making of the raw chocolate + recipe soon! And yes, I prefer to buy the whole bean and peel them. I love crunching right into a bean :)

Angela- Both myths. It DOES have a glycemic index but it’s a lot lower than corn fructose syrup. It’s also not genetically modified and not highly processed so you can’t really compare the two. However, if it doesn’t resonate well with you then there are many other alternative sweeteners that you can try, absolutely.

Great idea, looks like fun! You need to run one of these in Melbourne :) . 25 people is a great effort, I guess people just love chocolate =p myself included.

Just purchased some Organic Cacao Powder to go in my smoothies and Unsweetened Cacao Nibs (I guess you just eat these right out of the packet?).

Look forward to seeing the recipe.

Hi Fran
Congrats on the workshop you did really well.
My question is I have had allergy test and came back as having allergic reactions to chocolate (amongst many other thing) so have been avoiding it but feel as though I’m missing out on this wonderful natural resource. My thoughts are perhaps the screening was done against the typical chocolate in the supermarket and cacao might be ok though the naturopath did mention that I also could not have cocoa. Just wondering what your thoughts on this are?

Okay love that chocalate isn’t always bad for our skin. Fran, I have to tell you something that I learned today. It was in this book that I read, it’s the secret to becoming beautiful and confident. We look at Celebs and we can tell that they really believe that they are beautiful. That’s the secret, believing that your beautiful will make everyone else believe it too! We can all be beautiful girls, and I just wanted all the fellow acne suffers to know that they are beautiful and don’t let acne defeat you. You are all beautiful! :)

What do you say about those who say that agave nectar is BAD for you? They say its as bad as high fructose sugar.
