I took myself off to Greenfest on the weekend which is a green festival run in Brisbane each year.

The festival was okay. There were a few natural and organic skin care stalls which was nice, and I bought a couple of raw food treats from a Byron Bay raw food stall.
But the highlight for me was definitely an organic donut stall which sold donuts made with xylitol and rice bran oil (which is one of the worlds healthiest oils). Xylitol as you may know is a alternative and natural sweetener made from fibrous vegetables and fruit, as well as corn cobs and various hardwood trees like birch. I’ve blogged about xylitol in the past and how wonderful it can be as a sugar alternative because it has a 0 glycemic index. And apart from getting a funny stomach if I eat a lot of it, I still think it’s great.

This is a perfect example of a “half healthy treat” which it my own made up wierd term to give to treats that are trying to be alternatively healthy. A regular donut for example would have gone all out on the refined cane sugar, and most likely the unhealthiest oil out there. This donut was at least trying to be a little better for our body. So even though I was eating a chocolate donut, it was organic and made with xylitol and rice bran oil which is at least having a go at being a little healthier. Half healthy treats to me are guilt free!
And here’s a lovely shot of me enjoying the donut-

Strange, I’m eating a donut right now. I find it best to eat crap like regular donuts at night or most unhealthy treats cause when your energy gets drained,it’s already night anyway.
Mmmm, the middle looks like the best part.
That’s so funny, I found gluten-free donuts around that time that you posted this article. I got so used to not be able to eat most junk food, that now indulging on these treats (only temporarily)! And omg, they actually taste exactly like real donuts!
Good to know and will visit when I am back in Brissy
