I hosted a raw food dinner party on the weekend which was just great. I wish I had taken more pictures of the food to show you but we were all a bit too hungry and got straight into it before we realized we hadn’t captured the moment. Next time I promise!
Each of us brought a dish to share. My new extra special friend Cosmic Dave has a dehydrator so we spent Saturday making raw food pizzas together. I’ve eaten a lot of raw pizza in the past but never experienced actually making my own so it was cool to experience the preparation process.
The base was made up of soaked buckwheat and sunflower seeds that were blended into a paste then spread flat onto dehydrator sheets. The tomato paste was a mix of sundried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, shiitake mushroom and various herbs and it tasted amazing! We then topped it off with a heap of raw wholefood goodies including cherry tomatoes, baby spinach, baby corn, red pepper, olives, avocado, parsley, basil and macadamia nut cheese.
The others brought their own raw pizza creations, nut cheeses and dips, raw burritos, cupcakes and three types of ice-cream. It’s so funny how we can have a grown ups healthy dinner party but still be eating a lot of pizza and ice-cream!!!
It was a really fun night and a great way to share a fun healthy experience. Raw food can be a big novelty which is one of the reasons why I love it so much. It’s definitely the funnest food I’ve ever made. I just love creating a healthier version of some of our favorite unhealthy foods, like pizzas and ice-cream. I’ve also seen recipes online for raw versions of junk foods like twinkies and even donuts.
I’m going to be releasing a very special raw food recipe book soon with my friends from ROAR food. The recipe book is called “How To Have Your Own Raw Food Dinner Party” so you can have your very own! These recipes will not require you to have your own dehydrator either so they’re super easy to make. So stay tuned for the book launch coming up really soon!
In the meantime, how about you have a go at making your own raw food dish. It’s a really fun and beautiful way to get more nutrients into your diet. There are heaps of free recipes in blogs online that you can start experimenting with. I’ll list a few of my favorites to get you started.
- The Raw Chef Blog
- The Sunny Raw Kitchen
- Karen Knowler The Raw Food Coach
- Adventures of Raw Goddess Heathy
Please note that I’m not saying that you have to become a raw foodie to get rid of your acne. I’m simply suggesting that its a really fun way to get more healthy foods into your diet. I’m not a raw foodie at all, I’m just enjoying adding more raw foods into my diet. It’s also a lot easier for me in Australia at the moment because the hot weather goes beautifully with raw foods!
And of course, if you have your own favorite website or raw food chef, let us all know about it!

hi fran, this post came just as i was making some raw food… one of the recipes i was making was based around one from your coaching site (chocolate cupcakes - i just had one, yum!).
raw food is so much fun and it just tastes so good. i am loving experimenting with all the different things you can do - so creative. i LOVE the pizza idea which i would never have thought of. thanks for the links too which i am going to check out

I love how you’re not a hardcore raw foodist! You’re able to enjoy both diets.
Raw Food???
WoW to be honest I never actually knew that there was a name to the “cuisine” as such. I mean I’ve seen people eat raw meat (like beef, etc) but that’s a little extreme.
P.S. That strawberry and lime cheesecake looks amazing…
@Health Geek - the Raw Food diet is typically considered a vegan diet, so it wouldn’t include raw meat. There might be some people who go that route, but it’s not common. The typical raw food diet would not include raw fish either (a la sashimi & sushi).
Many people are “high raw”, which means the large majority of their food is raw (usually 70-90%) but they might eat a little cooked grains, beans, or sometimes meat. Strict raw foodists wouldn’t heat their food above 110 or 120 degrees and are vegan.
Hope this helps! =)
