I feel a little bad about writing a review on a skin care product that I don’t like so soon after writing about a product that I love, but I have had people asking about my experience with Dr. Hauschka’s moisturizer, and I guess that’s just the nature of a blog.
I actually wasn’t that excited about using Dr. Hauschka’s products in the first place, because I’d read so many mixed reviews on their skin care line - some people seem to love them, and some not so much.
I also knew that Dr. Hauschka’s philosophy was to use a lot of “healing” essential oils which I don’t like. I realize that essential oils can be at times very beneficial to the skin, but in my opinion (and from what I’ve learned since I’ve been immersed in the natural skin care industry), is that acne-prone skin just does not fit well with products made heavily with oils. Even oils that are non-comedogenic can sit too heavily on the skin and contribute to clogged pores and an acne breakout.
Of course I am a total believer of essential oils and how great they can be for the skin. But in my opinion they are only suited to mature skin types, or skin that is not in any way acne prone.
Always do your own research before you buy a new product
If you read the blog article I wrote the day I bought the Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream Light, then you’ll know that it was kind of an impulse buy.
I hadn’t done a lot of research on what product to try, and I’d run out of the last moisturizer I was using, so I just bought what one of the staff members in the health store recommended to me. This was a big mistake - nobody knows your skin better than you do, and nobody knows acne-prone skin better than somebody else with acne-prone skin.
So always research before you buy a product. Otherwise you’ll end up with a bathroom cabinet full of half used skin care products like me.
My experience using Dr. Hauschka’s Rose Day Cream Light
I used the Rose Day Cream Light for almost two weeks. I’d like to say it was okay, but it didn’t fit well with my skin at all. First, I should not have bought the “Light” version of this cream, because it was too light on my skin. I have normal to dry skin on my face so I found the Dr. Hauschka product just not hydrating enough for my skin type.
The cream also made the skin on my face red after I applied it. This could have been an allergy to an ingredient in the product, but the only cosmetic ingredient that I’m aware of being allergic to is green clay so I doubt this was the case. It’s more likely that my skin is too sensitive for the cream, or perhaps the lack of skin hydration made my skin red and slightly irritated. Whatever the reason, the red face wasn’t a good look and it certainly didn’t make me want to continue using the product.
I finally decided that I didn’t want to use this product again when I got a small breakout of cosmetic acne from the cream. I developed 3-5 small pimples along my t-zone within five days of using the product. This is more acne than I’d had in a while so I knew it was the cream’s fault. And once I stopped using the product the spots went away.
I’m sorry Dr. Hauschka that this product didn’t work for me, and I’m also sorry to everyone reading this that loves their products. I realize that it’s rare to find a product that everyone loves, so if you’re still keen on trying Dr. Hauschka’s products, go for it. I’d just suggest you start with a sample size so you get to try before you buy. Especially considering how expensive this product line is.
I purchased my sample size from a health store for CA$6. But if you live in North America, try Sephora because I hear they give out free samples if you ask.
And of course, if you’ve had great success with Dr. Hauschka’s products, and the Rose Cream Light in particular, write a comment in the box below and let me know about it. I feel bad that I didn’t like this product at all so it’s nice to get a few different opinions from others that have tried it.

Hi there! I tried a normalizing oil from Dr. Hauscka but it did not suit my skin. But I love the lip balm, translucent bronzing concentrate and the cover stick. I´m planning to try more of the make-up range.
I think you are on to something about the oils! Since I started using a cleanser with less natural oils (LUSH’s Fresh Farmacy) and the same with my moisturizer (a natural one made mainly of aloe butter & water), I have been breaking out much less!
I just ordered Bee Yummy too and I can’t wait to try it! I’m not going to order products intense in natural oils anymore because no such product that I have tried has really worked. But Bee Yummy sounds different so I can’t wait to try =)
I have been using a tea tree oil night lotion from the body shop, I thought tea tree was an anti-septic so I wasn’t worried but recently I have loads more spots and they have been really angry. Do you think this may be why? I have been more stressed recently so I put it down to that, but now you mention essential oils, I’m not sure. I also started using Avene’s ‘Diacneal’ spot treatment at the same time so it’s hard to tell what is making my spots worse.
Tegen- It’s best to start with one new product at a time so you know what the culprit is. TTO is a natural anti-bacterial so it does help kill the acne bacteria, but your night lotion may contain other ingredients that are comedogenic or irritating to your skin. And the stress could be contributing too.
Try switching to a different lotion and seeing if the breakout goes away.
Thanks for your advice. I have ordered some ‘bee yummy skin food’ to try instead, I like the idea of it moisturizing and killing bacteria at the same time!!
I gave up on Dr. Haushka products after a bout of allergic acne with the night cream. My mother sent me a Canadian natural organic rose cream called Marie Chantal or Marie Chantals that helped stabilize my sensitive skin and has become my holy grail skin product.
