Raw Shakti Balls – The Best And Yummiest Skin Safe Anytime Snack

shakti ballsI made this raw creation up tonight and tested it on my house mates. They went down really well – I made them not overly sweet so perfect for a protein snack in the day or an after-dinner-while-watching-a-DVD treat (which is how we enjoyed them tonight).

I wasn’t sure what to call them but couldn’t go past the name “shakti balls”, which I might change because I kind of want to reserve that special name for something a little more shakti – which is chocolate naturally. But tonight we had a household full of giggling girls whenever we mentioned the word “balls” so I had to name them something a little cheeky! And yes, usually we are a bit more grown up than that.

These are incredibly easy to make. And the beautiful part is, you add your own quantities of each ingredient so you make it to your liking. I prefer the date flavor over honey so next time I may add in more dates and less honey. And I love the hazelnut flavor so I’m going to add more of that too.

Why raw vegan desserts? Because it’s the easiest way to avoid wheat, dairy and processed sugars which means we can still enjoy sweet foods and desserts without worrying about them breaking us out.

Now for the recipe! And these little treats are looking for a new name, so if you have any ideas please let me know in the response box below.

Shakti Balls

Ingredients

Pumpkin seeds
Sunflower seeds
Almonds
Hazelnuts or Hazelnut meal
Dates
Shredded coconut
Raisins
Honey
Dessicated coconut

Loving Preparation

Blend all ingredients in a food processor until well combined. Throw in as much of each ingredient a you like – they’re all yummy ingredients so you’ll always end up with a fantastic outcome.

The only rule is the blended result must be sticky enough to roll into balls. So make sure you add enough dates, raisins and honey.

Shape mixture into balls then roll in dessicated coconut.

The end result, yum!

Mmmm, yummy :) Thank you Fran for sharing these recipes. Do you have a cookbook that is Wheat free, sugar free and dairy free, that you use?

If not shakti balls, then shiva balls? I suppose shiva balls would make more sense anyway. ; )

These look delicious! Thank you so much for the recipes that you post up here for us, your site has really inspired me to eat healthier and add far more nutrients into my diet. Thank You! Also, have you heard of a “Green Monster” smoothie? It is made mostly from spinach but it is quite delicious.

I am not sure if this follows the all raw diet…but it might? If you make it be sure that the banana is frozen, I made the mistake of putting in a normal banana and it just didn’t taste as good as with the frozen one. I just thought I would recommend it, I have been drinking this every morning for a bit now and I see that my skin is really starting to glow and the bit of acne I had has cleared up.

Wow, what a mouthful, hope I didn’t bore you.
Thanks again for this lovely blog of yours!

Hi Fran, I just started reading your blogs. You posted a blog back in Nov, 2007 that talked about raw, organic cacao power. Is that product still working out well for you? I want to order it but wanted to make sure that it isn’t going to cause acne. Thx

Hi Nance, yeah I make a lot of smoothies and food with cacao powder. It doesn’t break me out :)
