I’m going to be really harsh in this review, but I can’t help it …this has to be one of the worst products I’ve ever used.

Skinvitals sells a range of cloth masks, each with its own purpose. The G-Energize mask is an anti-stress rejuvenating and invigorating mask with the active ingredients ginseng and ginkgo biloba, both apparently ‘powerful’ anti-oxidants.

The concept of a cloth face mask sounds cool, I mean …less mess and less fuss and all that. But in reality it was a nightmare to use.

The instructions on the back of the pack

The first thing I noticed when I opened the pack was the smell, which was just okay. It kind of smells like cheap oils. Like walking into an essential oils store and asking for the cheapest oils they’ve got, then mixing them all together.

The cloth also felt really cold and slimey. Not that same thick luxurious feeling you get when you dip your hand into a thick clay mud mask.

Placing the cloth onto my face was the nightmare part. It just didn’t feel like it fit! I know I have a big nose for a girl, but it should cater for my kind of people. I had trouble placing the cloth against my skin on the sides of my nose, and it kept popping off my chin and ‘mustache’ area. In fact, the whole time I was wearing the mask it constantly felt like it was half falling off.

skinvitals g-energize cloth maskAND I looked ridiculous. This girl in the image looks fabulous. She’s gorgeous, relaxed and happy. Her mask fits well and she’s kinda comfortable wearing it. While I felt like some character out of a horror movie. Even after I’d warned my house mate that I’d be wearing a mask so not to freak out if he saw me. Once I’d freaked out after I saw me there was no way I was showing my face to anyone. I did take a photo but I’m too scared to post it.

But, the worst part of this cloth mask is how in no way did I feel relaxed or soothed which is what I usually love about masks. In fact, I felt very uncomfortable. With the mask half falling off my face, a little piece sticking in my right eye, and the feeling that I had wet surgical gauze plastered onto my face like a burns victim, was in no way relaxing or soothing. I was also a little freaked out about the piece that kept sticking me in the eye because there’s a warning on the packet that says “if product gets in eyes, rinse thoroughly with water”. Okay, definitely not a natural product.

And of course after I took the mask off (after 5 minutes out of discomfort not the full 15), I was left with gooey oily stuff all over my face. So my next thought was, “uh oh, are these oils going to break me out??”. Luckily a day later they haven’t, but the scary thought was still there.

I’m sorry Skinvitals for being so harsh. But really, what were you thinking when you made this product?? I’ll definitely be sticking to non-cloth masks in the future.

Fran

It sounds like it made you look like jason vorhees, the fictional murderer who wears a hockey mask, haha, But you should post the pic just so we can see how crappy it is. This reminds me of cleansing wipes which leave a weird feeling when you wipe your face with it. I think all these cloths that have oil in them should overall be kept away from our face.

I read your article and I feel bad that you had to go through all that. By the way, I have a great product to recommend, it has proven to help me and work 100%. It is a male product, and a “black” product, but I’m not black.
My neck was getting like this heat rash, maybe also since I have curly hair I was getting these bumps that are not exactly acne.
Its called HIGH TIME Bump Stopper, razor bump treatment. It worked 100% in just a few days. I highly recommend it for any man who gets this condition.
IT REALLY WORKED!!

Hey Fran, what do you think of blackhead removing nose strips?

#5 Fran on 07.10.08 at 1:13 am

Hi Greta, I’ve never personally used them so I can’t say from experience, but I’ve heard they’re not that useful. They will remove some blackheads and oil but they’ll just leave a hole that will get filled up with oil and gunk again. You’re better off using an exfoliator.

HI Fran! those cloth things kinda scare me. I don’t know I think its just something about washing your face with something that just sits still collecting dust ( I know, I know, i’m being a little dramatic) but I think my hands should be fine for me. Hope your having a great time see you later Fran!

I DISAGREE. I came across the cloths in a store and bought the vitamin C. Yes, the cloths felt slimey and cold, but what do you expect? Warm them up if you don’t want cold. The slimey part is because the cloths are saturated in vitamins and nutrients for your skin.
I laid down and relaxed with the cloth on my face and I have a small face, so of course the cloth coverd all of my face. You can’t expect a company to make a cloth to fit every face. When my 15-20 minutes were up, I couldn’t believe the FABULOUS RESULTS! My wrinkles were smoother and my hyperpigmentation (sun spots) were lighter. I received COMPLIMENTS from my clients.
I LOVED the cloths and happen to be on-line trying to find them as the store has run out and I was telling my receptionist to try them.

I am afraid I have to disagree with you too. I have bought the H-Revive mask that moistureizes dry and tight skin. I loved my experience. Yes it was cold, and it was slimy but that actually felt good on my dry skin. I like to think my face is average as well as my nose and mouth, but I didn’t have any trouble with my mask. I put it on, set my little timer, parked myself on the sofa and bout went to sleep. The smell wasn’t all that great, but not that bad if that makes any sense. Once the timer dinged and I removed the masked I was really pleased with the results. My skin was hydrated and it glowed, and I had my doubts yes but I have to say, this product worked for me.

I used the whitening one and it abosolutely destroyed my face. The day I used it, it feels great. Next day,all my face started to get red, blotchy and very very itchy. At first, I didn’t realise that I had an allergic reation to the mask. The day after, my whole face is covered with a bad allergic reation. Only my eyes and neck which weren’t covered by the mask are okay. Then I realized it’s the damn mask that caused it. I am now taking anti-allergy tablets and I have to put cream on my face twice a day, hoping it will go away. I swear I will never ever buy this product again.

YOLI!! I am NOW having the SAME reaction!! I used it a day ago and my skin was fine initially, then yesterday and today my whole face is slightly swollen and my normally smooth skin has raised itchy little spots all over it. I could barely sleep last night cos my face was SOOOO itchy!! What a nightmare. I am also taking antihistamine tablets in the hope that it will settle down. Thank god I didn’t use this the day before my wedding last week as was the intention. I’ve never had allergies to face masks before. I’ll NEVER ever use this product or any in their line EVER again for sure!! OUCH!!

Ouch~~Jacinta~~~I feel so sorry U had the same reaction as I did. I couldn’t sleep at all when that happend to me coz my face was way tooooooooo itchy and I used ice pack on my face but that didn’t help much. I was so scared my face will be ruined coz I never had that happened to me before. Antihistamine tablets are good. I believe they settle down ur allergies too.
