Spring Cleaning The Mind To Help Clean The Body

The mind is a powerful thing. Thought and emotion have the ability to affect the body, both positively and negatively. For this reason, it is a good idea to maintain a healthy mind to assist in maintaining a healthy body.

Some ideas for maintaining a healthy mind

  • Have gratitude. Take a few minutes each day to think of and maybe even write down a few things that you were grateful for that day.

  • Have hope. Think about your goals and what you want in life. Write them down. Know that someway and someday you will achieve them.

  • Be kind. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves and others is to spread a little kindness. Think, speak and act with kindness. Be mindful.

  • Forgive. Let things go. Each new second of your life is a refreshing start. Know that people sometimes act without thinking, with an unhealthy mind. Don’t burden yourself with this; it is not your problem. Move on.

  • Accept and love yourself. You are one of a kind and you are fantastic. Take care of your body, as a vehicle through life. Accept that life contains both good and bad experiences, some days you might feel like crying, that’s okay. Be in the moment; experience the fullness of life.

Some useful exercises

Take a piece of paper and without putting any thought in to it, list everything that makes you feel happy. They could be actions, experiences or material things. Give yourself five minutes. Refer to this list when you need to.

  2. Perform a loving kindness meditation to leave you feeling happy. Close your eyes and relax your body. Then imagine yourself radiating out love to your family and closest friends. Once you are comfortable with this, you could then try sending love out to not so close family and friends. A further step would be to radiate that love to all humanity.

  3. Practice mindfulness. Whether you are drinking a cup of tea, eating dinner, taking a walk or just sitting. Be in the moment. Try not to think past or future, just experience what is going on that moment.

I know its a bit traditional but I’ve found the best things for clearing my mind is to sit with a good posture, exercise, eat right and work in a clean room. I tend to get stressed easily this time of year and when I get overly stressed I find my mind tries to escape and procrastinate - even to the point where I’ll just clean my room up or cook up a feast when I should be working.

By the way, isn’t tea is tops for getting your head screwed back on…

Rob, I agree with your thoughts. Particulary the part about being in a clean space. I find a cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind. When I was younger though, I used to thrive in clutter. I agree! Tea is tops!
