Update On The Best Ever Natural Moisturizer For Acne Prone Skin

You can buy Bee Yummy Skinfood here - http://www.highonhealth.org/products-page/

And here is my original review of Bee Yummy - http://www.highonhealth.org/the-best-moisturizer-for-acne-prone-skin-bee-yummy-skinfood%E2%84%A2/

I thought it was about time I answered those Bee Yummy Skinfood common questions. Just to recap on what I talked about in the video-

  • Yes, I do still use Bee Yummy every day!
  • In most cases there will be a purging period after you first start using Bee Yummy Skinfood which can last up to 4 weeks. Mine lasted 5 days. I know it’s horrible but it’s a good thing to bring all the toxins out.
  • I ran short of Phiosophys Purity Made Simple cleanser so I used some Cetaphil that I had lying around. And you know what, it wasn’t too bad! So if you don’t mind using products with chemicals and your budget is tight, cetaphil may be a better option than Purity Made Simple. But I am still on the hunt for the best ever natural cleanser.

I found, that now in winter (it’s really cold here now) my skin drys out even more and my normal amount of bee yummy is not enough for the dry parts of my skin. Unfortunately I can’t use more than this amount. (Made the experience that my skin can’t take in more and will start to push the product out again / get’s very oily if I use too much) So I need another cream on No-Make-up-days over the bee yummy.

I did have a very short purging period and I love the way bee yummy balances my combination skin. I can’t say if bee yummy reduced acne or helps against it since I didn’t have many pimples to begin with. But it definitly didn’t give me any more white- or blackheads. And I have the subjectiv feeling that it helps against upcoming pimples or red spots.
Though it doesn’t prevent breakouts, but in my case those are triggered from within (stress, hormons) so I can’t blame it on bee yummy. ^_-

The thing with cetaphil ,I’ve tried both,is that while it has a nice texture and feel on your skin when your cleansing it does not get rid of acne,at the most it may dry a spot out a bit. So,it’s a really good choice for people with no acne bu then again if you have no acne then why not just purchase a natural cleanser like from miessence or pure botanicals cause it really won’t make a difference.

#3 Penelope on 01.11.09 at 1:05 am

Hi Fran, I think I may have found the best natural cleanser ever! You can find it on the same website as where you get the bee yummy or on the simply divine botanicals website or health and svelte website in Canada. Anyways, it’s called You Cant Zit Here and it’s a foaming cleanser with almost 100% natural ingredients. I’ve been using it for the past few days and I’ve never seen my skin look so good. You should really look into it, it’s amazing and they also have a great moaturizer called Amazing Grace which I haven’t tried yet, but want to. Hope that was clear and helpful!

I have super oily skin and I’m been using Bee Yummy for about a month or so.. since you first blogged on it. I LOVE IT. Although, I do not use it day and night, only night because I’m using up another expensive moisturizer up so I don’t waste it. It’s really been clearing up my acne. I wash with Purity Made Simple in the morning and a gentle acne treating wash at night. I still use a spot treatment (Bye Bye Blemish) but within the past week or so I haven’t had many pimples. Today I have only one on my jaw line and I have noticed that my pimples aren’t “maturing” at all. With my new regimen I’m able to stop them in their tracks and they go away pretty darn quickly. I have also noticed that my scars are fading (I have also been using Mederma once a day or so to begin healing) and I have less redness in my face. My mineral make-up goes on so much better than before.

I’m very happy! This is the clearest I’ve been in years and even then I was on medication, which I despise, and that stopped working over a few months.. so I’m holding out for this!

I started using Bee Yummy about a month and a half ago and I did experience a mild purging period, but I think it was lessened by the fact that I only use it at night. So, maybe for those just trying it out who are afraid of the purging process can just use it at night to acclimate their skin to it and not have such a drastic change.

I have very, very oily skin and I really love the Bee Yummy. I feel it really does help clear up existing pimples, even stubborn cystic ones.

During the day I use Living Nature’s Balancing Day Lotion to balance out my oily skin.
I also use their Purifying cleanser morning and night and it has significantly helped my skin and doesn’t make me break out at all, which I love!

Fran, have you ever checked out Living Nature’s products? They have different product lines for acne/oily and normal/dry skin types, so if you’re on the search for the ultimate natural cleanser, I think you should definitely give Living Nature a try. I get it from the web site SaffronRouge.com, they ship internationally and offer a 60 day money back guarantee if you tried and don’t like any of the products they sell.

So, please let me know if you try it and how you feel about it.

i avoid cetyl alchol so i don’t use like 90% of drug store products. i have been using jojoba oil but it’s not good under makeup so i’m on the hunt again.
i’m thinking about clinque dramatically different gel but i can’t find the ingredients anywhere!

#7 Eden on 01.11.09 at 5:25 am

I have been using the Philosophy cleanser and Bee Yummy for a couple of months now. I have an oily T-zone and moderate acne but unfortunately I am not finding that these products are helping my acne as much as I would like. Though I use them every morning and night (I love the cleanser so much), in addition, I am using a 3 step system called Skin i.d. once every two days. Most 3 steps say to apply every day but my skin just can’t handle it. It definitely reduces the visibility of my acne even though I am not using it often. Everything I try never seems to clear up my acne. It always just stays the same or helps for awhile, then doesn’t. =/

#8 agnei on 01.11.09 at 6:20 am

Eden, my problem is exactly the same :/ I like BeeYummy but it doesn’t help me to get rid of pimples.

#9 Fran on 01.11.09 at 7:57 am

Oh I did forget to clarify - these cleansers and moisturizers are NOT medicated so it’s very unlikely they’ll clear up your skin. However, they will not make your acne worse, and the Bee Yummy does help to draw stuff out.

If you want to work on the surface of your skin to clear your acne, then you need to use a chemical like Salicylic Acid or Benzoyl Peroxide. So I feel that it’s much better to use a gentle skin care system to help support the health of your skin, and work on the root cause of your acne form the inside out.

#10 kevin on 01.11.09 at 10:04 am

So these products wont get rid of any spots. Can the same be said for any product other than SA and BP.But clay has gotten rid of spots for me or has it? Is there some other explanation?

#11 Lucy on 01.11.09 at 11:05 am

Hi!, I love Bee yummy skin food. I use it every day and every night, along with Purity m.s but I’m sorry to say I’m not exactly clear..at all, but I havn’t been using any spot treatments or anything, so maybe that’s the problem. I recently ordered mario bescadu’s drying mask..maybe that will help, I’m at a relatively happy point in my life right now, so my skin isn’t bothering me as much at all, even though its pretty much breaking out the same as before. I would like to give some of my happiness credit to you, because your site helped me so much, if it wasn’t for you I would still be on acne.org, ravaging my face with benzoyl peroxcide, and drowning in misery. I’m 16, I’m done wasting my adolescence on insecurity and depression, I exercise every day and love my self to the best of my ability. I thank you so much for all that you have done: posting endless amounts of information on healthy eating, healthy living, acne solutions etc., and your forums are extremely helpful and supportive. Ignore whatever people are giving negative comments on your youtube videos, because you’ve helped so many people and give us acne “sufferers” a place to connect and be strong and healthy. Thank you so much.

From the bottom, top and middle of my heart,
Lucy

#12 Fran on 01.11.09 at 11:59 am

Kevin- The answer to that one is actually quite complicated so I think I’ll have to do another video!

#13 kristin on 01.12.09 at 4:32 am

Lucy-
like you i have tried MANY things and none were working. then fran had mentioned the oil cleansing method (which freaked me out at first) but for some reason i was drawn to it so i started doing it, and very quickly i saw improvement! i use castor and jajoba oil mixed and do it during the day and before i go to bed. for some reason i have been drawn to apple cider vinegar and my body cannot take it internally (because my body doesn’t react well, unfortunately-since it is loaded with amazing things) but I was reading that you could apply it topically, so i started doing that 2-3 times a day and INSTANTLY the redness went away and my my skin is almost 100% clear. I am escatatic as I have been trying to combat this for months and months of failed products! yes, your face smells slightly like vinegar at first but it balances the ph of your skin and does wonders. i have also been eating lots of cinnamon and ginger, that may have something to do with it too, but i just wanted to share!

#14 kristin on 01.12.09 at 4:34 am

ooh, and not to mention that all of these products last forever so you aren’t spending tons of money! make sure and get pure cold pressed castor oil and pure jajoba oil, and unfiltered raw organic apple cider vinegar!

#15 Dante on 01.12.09 at 8:12 am

Dear Fran,
I Have been using THE best cleanser, I am not 100% sure that it is is totally natural, but there are no harsh ingredients in it. It’s called “Cor Silver Soap” by Plank Designs. Plank is a pretty neat company, and they make neat things like yoga mats and such. Cor is an actual bar of soap, but unlike other regular bars of soap it doesn’t dry out your skin, and with in a few days to a week you will see that your skin feels extremely hydrated and fresh feeling. The one kinda bad thing about Cor Soap is that it is extremely expensive. If you go to the Plank website you will see it for $125, but I have found it as low as 90 dollars when searching for it on amazon.com. Cor will actually last you a really long time though. When I bought the little sample, I got it to last me a little more than a month! And now that I have my large 120g bar for almost 2 months, it is prolly not even 1/4 of the way gone. People have told me they got their bars to last up to nine months!!! So when you look at it like that it is really only costing you $10 a month. I know that I sound like I a sales person right now, but I just really want people to try this product. I urge whoever reads this comment to research it further online, and you will hear tons of great things about Cor soap. I almost forgot to say that Cor soap is great for acne, because silver has great anti-bacterial properties. Below is the link to the official Cor Soap website.

http://www.corsilver.com/product_cor_soap.html

#16 kevin on 01.12.09 at 9:21 am

Hey Dante,

I remember you told me about this Cor soap a few months ago and I have to say that I’m really fascinated by this product.I have the feeling that it could be the “the product” that we all have been searching for.

#17 kevin on 01.12.09 at 9:25 am

For some reason I can’t edit but I wanted to add that I think I’ll order a sample since it lasted you more than a month. But you havent really touched much on if it helps acne Dante. Did you clear your acne from using this? At least up to like 80%?

#18 Renee on 01.12.09 at 11:19 am

Hey Fran! My naturopath has recommended me the Eminence skin care line - all their products are organic and natural. http://www.eminenceorganics.com/products/index.php?paid=7

#19 Ana on 01.12.09 at 12:48 pm

Penelope - I used the cleanser you mentioned and a bunch of other products from that brand, but they didn’t seem to do much for me :( I think they have too many natural oils that can clog the skin. They were super nice though and sent like 3x as many samples as I paid for, so it’s worth a try!

#20 Penelope on 01.12.09 at 1:58 pm

Ana - it’s too bad u didn’t have a good experience with those products, because the cleanser has changed my life. I’ve never seen such results so quickly, and I’ve been struggling with acne for the past 4 years, so I’m really happy that I finally found something that works and is natural. I guess we all react differently to products, but hopefully someone here will give it a try and will have the same results as I had :D

#21 Ana on 01.12.09 at 3:56 pm

I’m so glad that it helped you, Penelope!

I wish it worked for me because it smells great and I would LOVE to have an all-natural product fix my skin.

I’ve been using all-natural products pretty much exclusively for the past year and a half, but none of them seem to really help. I think that my acne is more a problem of clogged skin than bacteria, since exfoliants like salicylic acid really help but anti-bacterials like TTO and BP do absolutely nothing for me.

So I think that is why natural products aren’t so great for my acne… most of them just have anti-bacterial properties, but I think my acne is more a problem of easily clogged pores, and I think most of those natural oils/butters clog my pores (even if they are said to be noncomedogenic or good for acne).

OH I tried the Amazing Grace cream from Simply Divine too and it’s nice but quite rich, so probably best for dry skin :)

#22 Penelope on 01.12.09 at 10:32 pm

Hey Ana, for your clogged pores I have found that the argile eau mer mud mask helps to exfoliate and deep cleanse your skin. Check out the website, it’s not just another mud mask, it really works and it hydrates your skin among many other things. Let me know what you think.

#23 Jacquelyn on 01.13.09 at 4:58 am

my best friend who is also a licensed esthetican (can’t spell sorry!) said that jojoba oil is the only oil nearest in ph and it’s chemical makeup to our skins natural sebum. She works at a spa that uses all Aveda products and their jojoba oil for the face is great! She massages it into my face after a glycolic peel and it NEVER clogs my pores!! Love U Fran-Fran!!

#24 Nina on 01.13.09 at 3:37 pm

Just want to put in my 2 cents about the best organic cleanser (not raw though =(. . .) I’ve been using Alba’s coconut milk face wash and lovin it. It is creamy so probably great for dry skin. .. i myself have combo skin but since it gets dry in the winter, i have switched from cetaphil to this. My skin has never felt so soft and smooth, and it doesn’t seem to break me out - my acne has calmed down to a manageable level. The best part though is that it smells amazing!

#25 Dante on 01.18.09 at 6:01 am

Kevin - Sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment/question. I have not had access to the internet for a couple of weeks… Cor Soap is the best cleanser I have ever used. And yes it is great for Acne! I had cystic acne, and with a month all I was left with was the little red marks that you get from cysts. I suggest that you buy the sample size, and take a picture of your skin before you start using it, and then when the sample has run out, the compare the two. This soap has worked wonders for my skin, and if you can afford it I think you should get it. Also if you haven’t already research it online, and you will hear tons of more great things! Best of luck to yoU!

#26 Kate on 01.19.09 at 4:23 am

I’ve been using Cetaphil moisturizer since high school (read: 10 years), at the recommendation of a dermatologist. It’s the only thing so far that has been able to deeply moisturize my skin without costing an arm and a leg. At some point I’d like to try this Bee Yummy stuff you’ve blogged about. Unfortunately, it is quite pricey.

#27 wen on 02.20.09 at 9:18 am

I tried Bee Yummy on your recommendation and it has helped to completely clear my skin. (I had adult acne).

About a year and a half ago I quit using BP after using it for 6 years because I could tell it was starting to age my skin. I went through a bad purge and tried to clear it with Retin A. My skin became even worse. After 5 months of Retin A and totally destroying my skin I decided to use all natural products.

I was told by a holistic esthetician I had dehydrated oily skin and to use rosehip seed oil or jojoba oil to moiturize…big mistake. My skin was covered in acne and the oil was making it even more clogged but I just kept trying different oils and natural cleansers. I stumbled upon your website one night and read that you had trouble with OCM (I also tried that) and decided to quit using all oil products and to start using Bee Yummy. After a one week purge with about 5 big spots my skin started clearing and has been clear ever since. I don’t even get tiny whiteheads or anything.
I’m still in shock over how clear my skin is.

I also had a ton of red scars and red patches (Retin A burns) that are almost 100 % gone. (I’ve been using Bee Yummy since October ‘08).

Sorry for going on and on but I hope it helps anyone who is out there suffering. Bee Yummy really works and is worth the extra $$.

#28 Gabriella on 02.27.09 at 11:26 pm

Hello!
I just wonder if you can use the bee yummy skinfood
moisturizer if you are(like Iam) allergic to pollen.
I really want to know because im searching for a
good product just like bee yummy. Im very allergic to
pollen and every summer i have to take medications.
And if you cant use bee yummy if you are allergic to pollen wich product can I use and what do you recommend?

#29 Fran on 02.28.09 at 4:36 pm

Gabriella- pollen allergy is commen ..I think you’re okay unless it’s a bee allergy then I’d stay away.

#30 christina on 03.02.09 at 9:01 am

Fran, just wondering if you have found a good ‘natural’ cleanser you could recommend. Have you used the black soap you have in your online store? (Could you tell us a bit about it if you have). Thanks.

#31 Fran on 03.02.09 at 9:38 am

Hi Christina, I have trialled the black soap and it was a little too drying for my dry skin type.

However, the reason I’m selling it is because it’s a VERY popular product with oily skin types (especially asian skin), and of course it’s a natural product :)

I’ll do a video review a little later.

#32 liz on 03.10.09 at 3:15 am

hey fran is bee yummy skinfood okay for combination skin? cuz i have an oily t-zone and surrounding dry areas…and occasionally my pores get clogged especially around my nose! :( with all those blackheads…often i get like white head looking pimples on my forehead and one or two red-looking pimples sitting by itself…lols my skin is funny…so can this moisturiser clear all that and acne in general on my skin? and can it help the t-zoe area be less oily.
thks for having this blog(:

polentamaze:D

#33 liz on 03.10.09 at 3:20 am

oh i forgot to mention i stay in a tropical city so it gets pretty warm and mildly oily to very oily at t-zone…hmm does that make sense?
thks

#34 Fran on 03.10.09 at 9:54 am

Hi Liz, bee yummy is good for combination skin but it won’t clear your blackheads. It works as an anti-bacterial not an exfoliant. You’re better off combining the Bee Yummy with a deep pore cleansing salicylic acid product.

And yep, oily t-zones are normal and probably the reason why you’re getting blackheads there. Look up the article I wrote on the tzone, it may help you out a lot.

#35 Amy on 03.20.09 at 5:03 am

Fran, have you ever looked at the cleansers on burtsbees.com? They’re all over 99% natural and the testimonials look great. I plan to order some soon.

#36 Kate on 05.11.09 at 10:10 am

Thank you so much for finding Bee Yummy! I have only been using it for 2 weeks but it is amazing. That and Manuka Honey as a spot treatment have helped my skin so much. Especially when I pick at it (my main problem), using them both helps keep bacteria from spreading too much and causing more problems.

#37 alex on 05.21.09 at 2:09 am

Hi Fran, I use Bee yummy at night and Spf 15 paula in the morning, and use Bha as a spot treatment, because. It seems to work fine for 2 weeks although i have big breakout in betweeen ago. a few days ago I suddenly I got few really big cystic acne. and burst resulting in scars, most of my cystic acne come from a comedonal acne tht wont go away even though how much bha I apply. Now I decided not to use Spf at all in the morning and only use Bee yummy and stick with tht and Bha for the comedonal acne. in two days i saw alot of white head pimple start to come out, tiny pimple but not exactly pimple. Do you think it is ok not to use Spf just wear hats? and my conclusion is sunscreen block pores and cause acne , I really ###%^& with sunscreen .

#38 Fran on 05.22.09 at 8:23 am

Hi Alex, I don’t feel that comfortable answering this one because I don’t want to give anyone skin cancer! But in my personal opinion, if you’re going to be out in the sun all day then sunblock is definitely a good idea. But for me I don’t wear it every day because I’m not in the sun a lot. I also use mineral makeup as a light sun protection (and hats).

#39 Renee on 06.17.09 at 4:36 pm

Hi Fran, I wanted to tell you that the Bee Yummy skin food is wonderful! I tend to have more of a problem with the after marks than the actual pimples and it is really fading them very quickly and the only pimples that have come up in the last week and a half Im sure were due to my hubby and I being naughty and eating KFC and drinking a bottle of red one night! ha ha! (unuusual behaviour) I have also been using it as a cleanser and every couple of days mixing Bicarb soda into it as an exfoliant - works really well. I make up a salt water wash to use with it. I would also like to tell you about a great mineral makeup I found called Mixology makeup. I have been using this for a couple of months and it is lovely stuff and only has about 3 ingredients - no nasties! anyway, thats enough rattling on from me - BIG thankyou for the bee yummy!!!

#40 Zinat on 08.13.09 at 7:26 am

#41 Jess on 08.15.09 at 9:44 am

I ordered a sample of the Bee Yummy and absolutely loved it! Soon after, I ordered a full size jar along with one of the cleansers (black velvet face wash) and about two weeks later, my skin was breaking out a ton. I’d like to keep using the Bee Yummy but was wondering if someone could tell me how to ‘layer’ products. For example, I’d like to use some BP or salicylic acid to try and clear up some of my blemishes - should I put the BP on first and then the Bee Yummy? or vice versa? any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance!!

#42 AMZ on 08.18.09 at 10:36 am

Have you tried Cera Ve cleanser? That was recommended by my dermatologist.

#43 Zinat on 08.23.09 at 9:19 am

Hi Fran,

i just wanted to know if you heard of Zenmed acne treatment? are they any good? Because they said its all natural so i thought it be good and they said 60 days guarantee.

If anyone else has tried it and they got good results, can you please let me know?

Thanks

Zinat

#44 happyface on 09.03.09 at 10:39 pm

Hi Fran :D
I just wanted to ask, is it ok to combine bee yummy+a natural face wash (burts bees new acne wash) with benzoyl peroxide (like the acne.org one with 2,5%, it doesnt seem that harsh- I used the 10% when I was a teen!). Like is it ok to use BP over night and bee yummy in the morning or will that stress my skin? I’m right now getting off the pill so I’m a little insecure to competely trust natural products and kick out the BP (I mean, yes its chemical, but it DOES help)..
What are your thoughts on this?I was also thinking of only using BP on extra affected areas (like around my mouth during pmt) and only bee yummy+burts bees cleanser and Apple Cider Vineager&Green Tea home made toner on the rest of my face (the best toner EVEEERRRRRR, by the way:))). Then the BP chemicals would not be over my entire face, more like spot (or patch) treatment:)
Does this all sound like too much for one little face to handle…?

P.S Thank you and please keep on making your videos. :))))

#45 Elle on 12.08.09 at 5:48 am

Hello,

Have you tried using any products from Lush Cosmetics? I looked at the ingredients list for Bee Yummy and I’m quite impressed, but for others who might be Vegan they should look in to Lush Cosmetics. They offer low-preservative, food-grade, skin care that’s fresh and it’s handmade. It’s about the same price-range as Bee Yummy (considering it costs more to make quality products!) but switching to Lush’s products changed my skin forever! I’ve had cystic acne since I was about 12 (I’m 21 now) and in the last year it finally starting clearing up. And you’re right, using GENTLE products and taking baby steps is the key (so is a healthy diet and healthy emotional place).

Cheers,

xx Paige
