Update On The Oil Cleansing Method And My Maca Experiment For Treating Acne

Over the past year I’ve been getting a steady stream of questions in my inbox and forum about the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM) and my maca experiment.

Unfortunately that’s the nature of a blog – what I was writing about and loving a year ago may not be so relevant today. So in case you’ve stumbled across some of my older articles and videos, especially a few of those when I still had an acne problem and was trying to cure it, have a look to see if there are any later updates on the same topic.

I recorded this video today in response to a question by Christene in the forum on this topic-

The most relevant and updated acne treatment information from me will always be in my mini-course. If I come across any new information or find a better treatment for acne, then I’ll update the mini-course first. Because it’s important to me to make that information as helpful and as updated as possible.

you said in the video that the OCM method gave you comedinal acne (if i spelled that right) and that you found a good way to cure that. how exactly did you cure it?

Hi Dawn, this is a good article for you – http://www.highonhealth.org/how-to-get-rid-of-whiteheads/

Hi Fran,

A burning question I’ve had is (concerning food) how do you know if to honestly trust these health foodists and be willing to believe what they say and to give in to superfoods and miracle herbs and stuff like that? How do we know that they’re not just trying a make a fast earning? I’m curious as to your perception of this sudden surge of a “health rave”.

#4 Fran on 03.23.09 at 9:46 am

Kevin, this health rave has been around for a long time, it’s just becoming more mainstream so more people are hearing about it. David Wolfe for example has been a raw foodist for something like 15 years (at least!). I don’t think anybody that passionate about health is really wanting to make a “fast earn” but it’s always worthwhile doing your own research as well. All you can do is gather information from heaps of different sources then make your own informed decision.

Good answer.I still have my suspicions about David Wolfe though, I dont know, something about all these superfoods he recommends just irks me and gives me a weird feel, like if we were never meant to take these things.I honestly wont be suprised if we hear someone dies soon from taking all his recommendations. I prefer people like Gillian McKeith who keep things realistic and more tells us what to avoid than we should eat.

Heed my warning though,I’m usually correct when I get these type of vibes,BE CAREFUL WITH WHAT DAVID WOLFE RECOMMENDS.I just know something will go wrong soon concerning David Wolfe.

I had the same reaction as you with this method Fran, combined with stress, which I’m still working to get rid of. I’m glad you gave a warning to other people out there who might want to try it

Hi Fran!
Just wanted to comment on all the great info you provide for freeee ^^
My experiences with acne have been similarly devastating. Along with my oily acne I had complications with eczema/atopic dermatitis which basically made me hide in my house too.
These days I just keep getting this reoccuring cycle of oily but flaky, white-head inflammed skin – which I’m working on.
Anyway, I’m also an avid experimental skincare lover and I’ve found some really great products over the years.
I also love how you are helping others realize food allergies!! It took me a very LONG time to finally stop lying to myself and acknowlegde my food intolerances with dairy and gluten.
OMG I think I’m writing way too much here but I’m kind of excited.
Again, thanks for sharing all your insights on skincare!!

Great article again Fran, thanx! :) Anyone living in Melbourne, Sunnybrook health foods in Bentleigh sells ‘activated’ nuts.

Fran you mentioned in the vid that different things affect different people (so true!) even your astrological sign — I’m a big believer in this and most people often think I’m just nuts for thinking along these lines… lol :) But what sign are you..?

I’m an Aquarius and find I am affected by the issues typically experienced by Aquarians…

Kitty it’s lovely to see like minded people reading my blog. I’m a Scorpio ;)

Hi Fran – Very cool, I’m also a Scorpio!

I’m really interested in learning more about how our astrological sign/ body type/ etc. may affect our skin and health….do you recommend any resources? Thx so much!

Hi Fran,
Very interested in the active almonds. Just started the BED to try and rid my acne. My cravings for bread and chocolate may be too hard to endure. My acne is not severe but constant and has turned from cystic to tiny white and black heads in T-zone (after 2 treatments with salysilic acid peels). Anyway, in the book i’m confused about preparing nuts and seeds. She makes it sound like soaking and sprouting are 2 different steps with a lapse of time in between. Can you explain the proper method.
GREAT BLOG!
Thanks,
Sam

Wow Samantha, you’ve started the BED! That’s fantastic. I’m having to ease into it slowly ..strangely I’ve come across a few blocks with it.

It’s much better to have comedonal acne than cystic acne! And that’s kinda normal having whiteheads and blackheads coming to the surface after salicylic acid treatments ..SA pulls everything out so you will have stuff slowing coming through. After a few more treatments / applications of SA they will go away :)

Don’t worry too much about the sprouting, just make sure you soak and ferment your nuts, seeds and grains before you eat them. I soak everything in water and a tablespoon of one of the body ecology’s fermented drinks. But you can add apple cider vinegar instead of the fermented drink which is prob just as good.

Hey Melissa and Scorpio buddy! I’d love to learn more about astrological signs and the skin too. I only know supplements like maca can affect people differently and astrologically from a quick conversation I had with my yoga teacher, so if I get the chance I’ll ask him more and pass any references onto you :)

#14 Kitty on 03.24.09 at 2:24 pm

I think we need a whole section dedicated to astrological signs and the effects on skin and how best to treat it all holistically… ;) lol

#15 kevin on 03.24.09 at 9:37 pm

For those of you who want to seek an astrological reading concerning your acne I would try m luck with the chinese horoscope. You can also read up on Ayurvedic healing, it also has some pretty deep meanings that concern how your body works (acne).

Do you still take Premula (sorry if I spelled that wrong) ?
I saw you talk about it in the other video about maca.
Do you know a good book on doshas and ayurveda?

#17 Fran on 03.27.09 at 9:54 am

Hi Lucy, no I’m not taking premular at the moment because my skin is clear and my premenstrual symptoms are so slight. But if I had problems with PMT it’s the first thing I’d go back to.

On of my readers, Devra, is very knowledgable on Ayurveda and recommended the book ‘Ayurvedic Healing, A Comprehensive Guide’ by David Frawley. I’m going to get a copy!

Hi Fran,
I’m wondering what products you use no for your skin routine?
What cleanser, moisturizer, etc.
Also, is your ‘blog’ the homepage of your website… Or am I missing something?
Thanks, your site is rad.

” maca has strong rebalancing and detoxifying effects. if you suffer badly from PMT every month then for your first cyle of taking maca, your PMT is LIKELY to be more severe than ever. but by the second cycle, it should start to balance out….”

p.s – just found your site, and lovingit xxx
