In this video I answer a couple of your questions ..
First up why some spots heal a lot faster than others. Then I talk about skin imperfections and why I don’t display a bunch of super close up photos of my own skin on this blog. Enjoy!

Your skin is so clear, I hope when I’m 30, I’ll be able to be happy, healthy and beautiful like you!
I agree your skin is gorgeous!!!!! I loved the video!!!!
I actrually have a question, have you tried cellfood? I found it at a herbal and organic food shop, and it claims to have 78 minerals, 34 enzymes, and 17 amino acids. You add a couple of drops to your water and it is supose to absorb fast in the body and cure any ailment you might have in upto a couple of weeks to months. If you don’t mine, could you do a google search on this product? Unfortunately I don’t have a website to direct you to. Thank you Fran! Mary
It’s your first video in HD! And your skin still looks amazing!
I feel the same about close-ups in photos.
Have a nice day!
You do have very BEAUTIFUL!!! Your face just glows. I also wanted to say that I LOVE your wedsite, You are doing a great job. I also wanted to say you should give it some thought about making your on cook book yo sell I know i would be the first one to buy!!! lol
Hey Fran, I have another question for you. As far as cutting out certain foods in your diet that might be causing the acne. How long does it usually take to see a difference in your skin?
Hi Mary, No I haven’t heard of it but it sounds great!
Kimberly- If you have a very poor diet, then the redness and inflammation can go down considerably within a few days. BUT typically for significant improvement in the skin through diet it will take 3-6 months to start showing on the skin.
Love the background! It must be nice to have nice weather year round in Australia
This might be my favorite video that I have seen thus far as well (out of 20 or so). What you said is common sense but unfortunately not too many people realize that what you talked about is 100% true!
Suggestion… do more videos with these types of backgrounds! I know you already do a lot outside and in the park, etc. but do more! I don’t think anyone will ever get enough of pure beautyness (my made up word) of nature
Keep it up!
Thanks Fran for responding! I really think you should look into it. If anyone else has heard about cellfood please let me know. Thanks Mary!
Hi Fran,
Oh my goodness, first, you look so great today, your skin looks glowy healthy! Its so interesting you did this video today because I was just thinking along the lines of the message in your video. I’m currently on the search for my best acne treatment, I’m 30 and am sick of acne and I’m getting married this summer and so want to finally have my clear skin back. I’ve been super depressed and stressed because its been a crazy year for me and I’m struggling with dealing with my circumstances and not letting them get me down. The interesting part is just today after going to an esthetician, in the back of my mind, I kept feeling that so much of my acne is my sad emotions and my hopeless feelings. Its like deep down I know that if I can just be happy and have the happy feelings flowing through my body, my skin will improve greatly…Its just funny that you said this today on your video, because its been in my head and then you said it. Just a little background, my diet is great, I’m 90% raw, lots of totally green veggie juices, my skin care is healthy, natural, & organic. I work out really hard, but I don’t do yoga…From this day I’m going to continue to do everything I’m doing (health wise) but deal with getting less stressed and happy regardless of my situation, sometimes I just don’t know how. and honestly so much of my sadness begins with looking in the mirror and then I don’t have the vigor to live it up and do what I love. Thanks so much for your videos and blog, its nice to see a girl on a similar path and mindset as me. If you have any advice I’m open to it. Have a blissful sunny day!
Mary, do you know any food on Earth that contains 78 minerals? Do you know that two minerals may be each other’s competitor when taken together? Have you noticed that sometimes you may crave for an apple but not a cucumber? Why? I can see it with my heart that the product in question is another trend, ’swine flu’. I may be wrong. Please correct me.
Many years ago Joe Weider marketed a food substitute packed with nutrients – the whole nine yards. But I have not heard a lot about his product since that time.
Hey Mike,
I know it seemed a little implausible to me, but the woman who recommended it is someone I look up to and trust. Anyway I will keep you updated in the Forums when I start. I can understand thinking it might be another trend or scam just to get your money, but it seems pretty credible. Thanks Mary!
Fran,
Your blog has been such an incredible support system for me while I struggle with the emotional effects of skin breakouts. Thank you so much! You truly inspire me to stay positive.
I really wanted to share an acne ‘cure’ that has worked for me. I have been struggling with skin breakouts for years. My whole life I got a lot of throat infections and even had some major surgeries as a teen-I was on and off strong antibiotics frequently (at least twice a year.) I never had skin problems though. When I turned 19, I started taking the pill and my skin began breaking out mildly. Things cleared up luckily. But then when I was 24, my boyfriend of four years broke up with me the day before I started a big job as a CPA. My mild breakouts returned so I went to the dermatologist and was prescribed tetracycline. Not having done my research about candida, I took it for 6 months!! Yikes. My second year on the job, I healed emotionally from the break up but all the sudden my skin broke out violently (I really hadn’t had acne like this ever). I went right back to the derm and started on doxycycline.
It’s been 4 years of struggling with my skin, each year gets worse than the next and each time I hop on antibiotics per the advice of my dermatologist.
When I discovered your blog, I was motivated to do research for the root cause of my skin problem. With a strong history of antibiotic use, yeast and bladder infections and sugar/carb cravings, I realized that I have chronic systemic candida.
So I found an eating plan (it’s called the specific carb diet) that’s supposed to heal your gut from anything like candida to colitis. It focuses on eliminating the bad/starchy carbs that wreak havoc in your digestive system. You eliminate all grains, some starchy beans, sugar etc. You are allowed to eat fruit and use honey on this diet however with my severe candida, I have eliminated any sugar, including natural forms. I eat a lot of vegetables, lean organic protein and fish. I have also learned to bake with almond flour (yum). I have been following this eating plan strictly for about 4 months and you wouldn’t believe the difference. I do not breakout. It is incredible.
I also changed my skin care routine a bit.
Inspired by hemp hemp hooray I made my own cleanser.
Mix a whole jar of manuka honey umf 20 with a quarter cup of hemp seed oil and 2 tablespoons of green tea and stir until you get the consistency of a cleanser. You must refrigerate this but it cleanses beautifully and keeps the ph of your skin in tact.
I moisturize with bee yummy (my absolute favorite-thanks for your recommendation)
I do apply Jason’s 12 1/2 AHA serum at night (this is glycolic acid but it has done wonders for my skin and has been very restorative…gives a beautiful glow and doesn’t leave you sticky or shiny)
All in all, something that has tormented me for four years and somewhat taken over my life has finally been “cracked” by my drive to figure it all out-and watching your videos of course
I am currently in therapy for the emotional effects of acne. My skin is virtually clear with a few minor imperfections. I am so thrilled to have discovered the specific carb diet and a beautiful, natural skin care routine. It has changed everything for me.
If anyone suspects their acne is caused my candida, please consider this way of eating for a year or so. It will definitely change things for the better. There are websites outlining the eating plan as well as books. The book “Breaking the Vicious Cycle” is written by the creator of the eating plan Elaine Gottschall.
Thank you again Fran for your dedication to us all!
hugs,
Anna
Hi Fran,
I was wondering whether you could tell me the best way to get rid of acne on the forehead? I read somewhere that acne on the forehead can be a possible sign of liver congestion. I looked this up and it seems that I experience some of the symptoms. I did a little research on what is good for it and apparently Milk Thistle and Dandelion is good for it, do you think these would help the acne too?
Yes, Mary, it is up to you. This product may not be a scam, and the woman may be the most trustworthy person in the universe. I am not talking about it. My point is ‘can acne be cured with vitamines, minerals, enzymes?’
Does your body stay alive because of the nutrients’ intake? If so, try to eat just capsules with all the vitamines, minerals, enzymes and even carbs and proteins that you need daily. For how long you could live like that?
Good luck in your search.
Hi I’m 18 and I live in America where it seems like most of what we eat is junk food. I realized when I took a look at the foods I’m supposed to avoid, the list is pretty much everything I eat. It’s so hard to find healthy things to eat unless I eat only vegs and fruit all the time. I’ve had acne since maybe the 7th or 8th grade but it has got worse through the years. I have tried everything, I remember after trying procative with no luck my mom took me to the dermatologist and he gave me creams, pills, and I felt like nothing was ever going to work. My face became so bad during the winter I started going to taning beds which I new was bad for me, but the emotional side of acne for me was worse. I stoped going to tanning beds this year and realized they didn’t really help they just covered up the acne for a little while. I know that the tanning leads to skin cancer and thats way worse than acne anyway. I just wanted to say that I look up to you and thanks for puting so much time and effort into helping people like me. I hope I can make some changes and start living a healthy life. Thanks Fran:)
I have been using Manuka Honey UMF 18+ for about 4 months. It helped clear up some of the cystic acne on my cheek, but didn’t do much for the small whiteheads on my forehead and chin. I ran out of it and want to buy something a little stronger. I saw a video in which you were talking about manuka honey umf 20+.
I was thinking of getting manuka honey with a umf of 25+, but do you think it will be too strong? Some websites say that it works great for acne, and others say that it could irritate or burn the skin. I appreciate any help that you can offer me. I don’t want to buy something that won’t be strong enough, nor do I want to buy something that will be too strong.
AndreaJuliet- You’re beautiful, stick with it! If nothing is working, looking into treating your acne as a virus .. AND get into detoxing and cleansing the body.
Sean- Acne is often a sign of liver congestion, but forehead rash like acne is also often a sign of candida. HOWEVER, sometimes it doesn’t matter what our acne is caused by, as long as we’re cleansing, detoxing and becoming as holistically healthy as we can, everything that’s not quite right in our body just gets fixed, and the acne just disappears along with it.
Mariha- You’re at a beautiful start of your journey, it’s going to be an amazing journey from here! Loads of love and support to you gorgeous.
Sarah- Manuka honey can never be too strong! I’m surprised that some sources say it can burn the skin, maybe they were talking about the manuka oil?
Thanks for your help! I had a look at the symptoms of candida and it seems possible that I may have it but I looked at some of the suggested diets for people suffering from candida and they are all very restricting apparently some fruits can’t even been consumed while on the diet. What foods should be avoided when cleansing the body and what foods are best?
Hey Mike!!!
I understand what you are saying now. I believe curing acne has to do with all aspects for me at least. I have cured my acne and now it is just a matter of staying healthy and keeping acne away. I believe ‘yes acne can be cured by vitamins, minerals, and enzymes’ but other things contribute to the cure too. I try to eat the right things; so, I don’t have to rely on vitamins and minerals forever. It is just really hard to get all the nutrients and vitamins our body needs with the things we eat. I guess that is the reason the cellfood appealed to me. I don’t know if this made any sense, but I appreciate you responding! Thank you Mary.
Hi Fran,
I was just wondering if you would treat whiteheads any different than regular acne. I seem to get more whiteheads than anything else and they seem to take longer to heal. Any advice would be appreciated!
I really think you are great at helping all of us acne sufferers!
Thanks,
Michelle
Hello Fran,
I want to thank you for the wonderful inspiration and encouragement that you are giving me. At 25 and still suffering on the rollercoaster of acne, it is so helpful to know that someone out there is on a similar journey. You give me a lot of hope in an area of my life where I feel so hopeless and out of control. Having tried every remedy under the sun and seeing a dermitologist since I was 14, I was ready to finally give in and try accutane at a friend’s thoughtless suggestion. (I cried for four hours after she asked me, “gee, have you ever thought about accutane?”) I had previously done my own reseach and determined that the risks were not work the potential benifits of clear skin. I feel like I would do anything and pay anything to clear my skin but there is nothing that I feel is guaranteed to work.
Your writing and shared experience is giving me not only hope, but patience. It is really hard to wait months to see the differences start to take effect. I know that some of my skin misery is in my head and relates to a life time of perfectionism and self-destruction. I also beleive that the root of my problem is within and that if I continue to take care of my body and mind in the best way possible. Then I will finally begin to heal.
